Wireing Gurus or Sages, HELP!!
I am basically ready to fire my 5 year nightmare project (details soon to be told to the list), but I have a wiring issue.
The car is a 71' T and the engine is a 76' 2.7 CIS, BUT the CIS is gone and Webers are in it's place. I found some good info on the differences between the 14 pin connectors for both engines and have made the modifications needed there (pull two out and dis-guard and move one). What I have not found is info on the remaining plugs I have to hook up. I have Workshop manuals in electronic format but they are not the best for electrical diagrams as they are on two pages and sideways!! I am unable to print them either since I am in the process of moving and my printer in in a container on the ocean. I am running out of time to fire her up and could use some help guys. Enclosed are the two connectors I am concerned with. The first is a two prong connector that has a matching on on the chassis which I assume belong together but I have visions of making smoke signals with that assumption so I wanted to get verification first. The second is a little worrisome as I think it might be non-original? It looks like an H4 connector to me and has very non-Porsche colors (all solid). Can you guys confirm this is not a Porsche engine connector? Assuming I am correct in the above statement, on an early car with carbs besides the 14 pin, there is just the CDI connector (3-pin plus ground) and the above mentioned 2-prong that come from the engine to the chassis? I also enclosed a pic of two identical connectors coming out of the rear fuse panel area. One I am 90% sure is for the two stage rear defrost (shown plugged in), any ideas on the other one? Last question. The 71' has a pin called Distributer signal on the 14 pin connector, no such match exists on the CIS harness. Can anybody tell me what that is for? I have two wires for the coil and two for the distributer inside the harness which seems to be what I need. Therefor I am not sure what this connection is for. Thanks guys!!

I did the swap in my 74 911S stripped all the CIS wiring and went with only what is needed for Webers + a few spare options. 1 Change is got rid of the silly out dated wiring panel and used a rear wiring panel from a 76 914 parts car I had. It came out clean since the connections (large multi pin in /out) match. The wiring traces are all potted on back side and I have an extra relay or 2 available. You may not want to do all that but I did break down all the ins and outs and sketched it on the a copy of the 914 panel from manual if it helps. I also broke downthe main connector pin outs, Less the CIS. Maybe that’s all you need. The 914 panels are not that expensive and clean things up back in engine compartment. I can send a Pic if you or anyone else wants to see how it looks and scan some diagrams (hand drawn on the 914 panel drawing from manual useable) if you need. I really wanted to put them on CAD since I do that and maybe should... just added a "quick fire"non mechanical point ignition so it needs that updated anyway.

14-pin wire connections for '76.......

Without the picture/s it would be difficult to solve your problem. If you have been using the 14-pin connection guide (Dipso's thread post #29) supplied by James Brown, pin#12 (free) is actually the connection for tachometer and CDI @ TD. Is the black/purple wire in the engine harness (14-pin) located @ 12? If not, then this could be your question. Post some pictures for better communication. Keep us posted. Tony |
