Help with conversion
Hello Quaz.
I have a 1986 factory turbo look going through a restoration. Over the years I ended up with one H1 and one H4. Trying to fix the popeye look and want to convert to a projector/halo look. I am curious if the 1951 VW Beetle Headlight Assembly 111 941 037 C will fit my 86 style. I really like the clear lens of this assembly and believe it to work well with the projector configuration. I realize I will still need to buy one bucket assembly for an H4. |
The part number 111 941 037 C should fit your 86 no problem. Although all you need are the lenses...I think those can be found dirt cheap with some creative google searches/ebay.
Here is my updated thread with what I am running now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/605456-hid-less-than-400-part-2-a.html |
I assume the folloing would work as part of the clear lense solution?

Confirmation about the headlights
Quaz (Kevin),
Interesting work you did on the headlights, was considering the same route and found your thread. I am starting from scratch on a1966 coupe that has the fender metal only. Unlike you I dont want a customized looki but the authentic early USA look. So I buy the VW repro for the US (with the clear glass) + original chrome rings + original sealed beams (w fluting)? Do I need a separate mount to couple the sealed beams to the rear of the assy bucket? Thanx |

I was looking to reproduce the Cibie bi iode reflector for early 911R reproduction cars. I wanted to be able to use different lens diffuser design for light management and looks. Using updated reflector design and finish to maximize reach and durability. Made contact with an engineer that works for a company that supplies the aerospace industry with reflectors. He custom built some reflectors for me for this project. Using H1 and H4 bulbs in conjunction with period lenses came up with these updated reproduction dual reflector headlamps. They work extremely well and retain the factory race look. The iodes can be used in conjunction o r individually, either a low beam of 80, a high beam of 100, a driving flood of 100, or a combo of both at 200. Shown here the reflectors bare, and behind Cibie Z lens refractors. Lots of options with these headlights. Thought I'd share my attempt at up dating headlights in this thread...seemed appropriate. The direction of the post was a low cost alternative to high dollar real parts. These fit the parameter as these are well below the cost to buy original bi iode headlights.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371310160.jpg

In the meantime, does anyone know if there is a thread on the build of these lights. I have looked but cant find anything. |

I'll dig around ...i think i kind of added to threads as opposed to doing my own, so it might be scattered. That said I'd be happy to answer questions, provide pics, etc I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that they are still a work in progress. The car had fuel line burst as I was moving cars in order to do a bit of a winter refresh, and the car caught fire, out in the drive, 18" away from my old wooden Victorian house, surrounded by 3' high banks of snow. I emptied 4 fire extinguishers (and had to run to get them from the shop, the basement, and every floor up to the third) trying to get the fuel fed blaze under control and was only successful in a last minute desperation hurl of a 5 gallon bucket of furnace water.. . Then the worst car known to man, my audi A4 began its litany of issues, and the poor 911 has been back burner-ed. I had planned to create an internal reflector/shield, and create it with 3D printing, as well as figuring out a way to add obscuring elements to the clear lenses. |

It would be great to see some pics that tell the whole story so I can have a go at copying it. Maybe you should start a new thread when you get time. |

VW headlight bucket converting to H4 7inch headlight
I just noticed your post using VW clear lens headlight buckets to mount your 7 inch headlight units.
Question- I have a H4 fluted lens euro 911 and does not have the 4 x sugarscoop mount points inside the headlight bucket for the Hella headlight bucket like the US cars. Did you still use the rear mounting points for your 7 inch headlight or did you mount the new 7inch headlight inside the VW bucket? I can't see from the photo. I'm worried about the weight of the headlight if I use the VW bucket mounting as I will use the new 7 inch Trucklite LED headlight and they heavier than other 7 inch H4 headlight units Any help appreciated, Markhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428724607.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428724631.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428725021.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428725213.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428725268.jpg |
