Been there they want way too much for the ones I find just to tear them apart to do this I guess if I have too I will tear apart my H-1's and use them.

Anybody got any parts for H-4's I need the outside trim rings with the adjusting screws still in there and the springs that attach the light housing to the trim ring. I need these for my HID projector project but don't need the whole headlight assembly as I am using the VW part that also fits these rings for a cleaner look. Thanks in advance.

H4 Headlight rings

Here are some potential H4 rings for this project. I'm posting them here since they weren't making it by e-mail.

Other than the black paint that has worn thin on one of the rings they're in good shape.

Thanks Jeremy they are exactly what I need email sent I just ordered the VW headlight buckets and I need to check on the driving lights to see where they are.

gsmith660 11-27-2010 09:09 PM

Well I have been doing some research and I think these are the projectors I will be going with they are more expensive then the original kit I had picked out but they use denso ballasts and phillips bulbs which are known brands. Tell me what you think. They will for the most part look like lateapex's lights I even managed to get the same driving lights in a blue ion bulb and these will mount on a plate I will attach to the headlight buckets.

This looks like a nice setup. When I was looking for a set they di not have them, so I went with the BMW e46.

What do plan for the shroud around the HID? I build a box and cut a hole to fit the complete lamp, and vacuum formed the shroud from plexiglass, and painted it silver.

Cheers

Right now based on how much room there is behind the headlight assembly I am going to cut a plate of 1/8 inch aluminum and cut a hole in it so I can mount the projector from the back side and make the shroud fit flush I am thinking I will use the shroud in the pic but could change my mind also depending on the space I may be able to mount the ballast below the projector in the bucket. My plans are to set both the projector and the driving light to the same cutoff point and then lock the driving light down so I can adjust both at the same time using the adjusting screws on the H-4 ring.

He has pics of his lights in this thread, mine will look a lot like yours but based on room I will use a plate with a hole cut for the projector I will post progress in a thread as I progress. I am glad you are still on this thread because I have a question for you. How did you mount the driving light inside the bucket?

gsmith660 11-30-2010 09:56 AM

Ok now I need input what kelvin lights would you get and why: 4300k 5000k or 6000k

wwest 11-30-2010 01:06 PM

4300K, our sun's primary color, human eyes have had eons to adapt.

bfunke 11-30-2010 04:35 PM

Please post pictures of how you mount these projectors into the headlight bucket. If someone has figured out how to make a well engineered design please share. I think such an item would be very marketable.

I'd prefer 4300K. 5000K is Ok, but 6000K and up is just too blue.
your eye should think that the light is neutral, and compared to the surrounding lights of civilization and other cars, those are just too blue/purple.

I think the bluer ones have less actual lumens as well.

yea, LOL. I THINK he's referring to the natural color temp of daylight. Which varies, of course, depending on time of day, etc etc. I think 5K is considered 'nominal' daylight, and 6500 to 8K is considered "northlight" by photographers. Which is the light coming from the sky, as opposed to the sun. Its most noticeable as the blue tone in the shadows of snow scenes.
