Crankcase oil Temp sensor
I need to replace the crank case oil temp sensor - you know the one with the green/black wire coming from it.
Is it safe to do this without draining the oil? This would make a 10 minute job a 60 minute job. I suspect that a good layer of paper and rags underneath the sensor hole and a quick in/out would not lose too much oil! Any thoughts appreciated.... |

Please be more specific........

Please be more specific in your questions and you'll get a better response. What year and model is your car? Give this information and it will make a lot of sense to readers. A lot of these guys are very good but they are not mind readers!!! Thanks. Tony |

Just changed mine last week, and decided to not drain oil...if it is the one on the passenger side cam chain cover near the top, I got about 3 drops from the hole before I got the other one in. My opinon is that you don't have to drain it...but I am no mechaninc or know it all. 1968 911L

Yes that's the one, cam chain cover just to the right hand side. Will try the quick and dirty method, if anything looks like it's going to pour out I will stuff the old sensor back in!
