no reason not to hot rod it, if it can be reversed, keep it narrow bodied, keep the original motor and drop in a 3.2, lots can be done without making significant changes.

Is it documented? Does it have special race history? Did someone famous own it? If the answer to all those questions is no then hot rod it however you want. However if you plan to resell it in the near future just make sure your mods are tasteful. My 2c.........YMMV
Love the color!

It has already been painted, so even if you flair it, you won't be compromising originality.
Go over to the 911S registry. You will see all kinds of original and modified 911s. The one thing they all have in common is quality workmanship. These cars are meant to be driven. Make yours a driver, and Ferry will be happy. After all, the first modified Porsches came from the factory. |

I know everyones up for hot rodding it but I'm voting for keeping it original. Buy the original engine and bring it back to it's former glory. Beautiful car, beautiful colour

As an owner of a stock/standard 'T' I would definately concider modifying yours!
Keep it narrow body as there are fewer and fewer of them, but drop in a 3.2 as suggested, 15" by 7" fuchs all round and better brakes. recaro replicas and some weight saving and you are away! I really miss the seat of the pants driving experience my 2.7 targa gave me and the standard 911T just is not enough speed/adrenaline drug for me! - Hence the new arrival of a 930 in a few weeks! - leave the flares off though! good luck Ben

Sweet ride! I would keep it narrow, even if you rod it. If you keep the stock look, with the 3.0 in the back it will make for a nice sleeper.

stock or?
Ed,
I went through the same thought process a couple of years ago. I had a hot 2.7 motor, sitting on my engine stand, waiting for an early 911. The idea was to build a nice hot rod to go with the motor. I bought a 71E roller and when it showed up, it was much, much straighter, than I thought it would be. It came with the matching numbers engine & transmission in separate boxes....as a bonus. I decided it was too nice to hotrod and did a bare metal resto on it. It is awesome and I drive it often, but........an it's a big but......after 2+ years of work, it is a beautiful 911, but not exactly the car I really wanted. It's still too nice to modify, but I'm already looking for the next big thing. Regards, Before ![]() After Al ![]()

No such thing anymore. The Ts are awesome cars.
IMHO if I wanted a hot rod I would start with a middie. I see you have a yellow one there. ![]()

Go hot rod, but stay narrow. In my opinion the narrow look keeps the historical panache, but adding enhanced performance adds fuel to the fire! Just my opinion. You really can't go wrong either way.

I also vote for the performance upgrades with the stock look. With my '69E, I've put all kinds of upgrades on it, but have the original engine/transmission/suspension, etc. stored. If I ever sell it, someone can return it to stock in the future if they want.

I've always been a strong proponent of "It's your car, it's your money, do what you want".
That said, with older cars I enjoy doing what I consider "period correct" hot rodding... i.e. if I were a young, car-savvy guy, and bought this car used a few years old, what would I have done to it? Just curious, what's your meaning with "the Ts are awesome cars"? Besides the fact that it's a 911... |

what i was trying to say is standard as it rolled off the show room.
Quote:
I have a 930 and love every minute of it, what i am looking for is the sound and feel of what porsche is really about. Not that a 930 isnt a real sportscar but even in 79 with all the sound deadening and leather you kinda loose somthing along the way. Quote:
yea i know but after looking at the back dating threads i have decided it was to much work to make the car look correct long hood conversion and all, plus even closing the doors on a pre 73 car has a different sound to it. I have a 78 SC that was getting the long nose treatment but after a summer in the 69 912 i decided that i wanted the early chassis feel with more power. Thats the reason i bailed on the back date in favor of the well....real deal.
