So what do you think of this 70T?

Looked at what the owner says is a 70T yesterday. Nice car overall though someone kind of went wacko with the mod direction - meaning used an update center piece for the rear (with reflector), put wide stee flares on rear but no flares on front. Paint is nice and I do not see much rust at all under the car or in the jambs, under hood, etc. Has later seats with the black Porsche fabric inserts. Very clean car overall. He says the tranny is original but engine was swapped out for a 73 2.3L (current owner had this done by a shop in St. Louis)- has the receipts for most of the car's history. He has had it for about 10-12 years I think. The one thing - started it up and red oil pressure light stayed on and oil pressure gage stayed on zero even when he blipped the throttle. I also noticed the engine shroud looked to be orginally green, but was painted red, as well as the fan was painted red (possible motormeister engine? He was not sure where his shop in St. Louis purchased engine from and I believe him). Does have Webers... and a Bursch exhaust.

Posting some pics to see what everyone thinks about this car. Anything here look interesting?

The VIN is 9110121674

The engine case number is 9011011027R

The stamp on the Karmann tag in the door jamb is either 1313L or 1813L.

And is it me, or do these flares look a little on the wider than normal side? Something about them looks weird to me.

OK, so looks to me like it has to be 1313L for the paint code - a Bahia Red ar orginally...

I like everything except picture #7 under the front end. Might want to poke it for rust and what are those Home Depot bolts holding in?

I don't remember about the bolts. I would have to look at it again.

The rear looks like RSR flares while the front is stock. You could easily add some front flares and bumper and you"ll have a nice RSR look.

My 3rd Porsche was a '70T...nice car. The only "upgrades" I like on this one is the webers and the pressure fed tensioners. The other changes were pretty common back in the day...people wanting their car to look like a new one.

let me throw this out... guy wants $12k. I am probably not interested, but was wanting to see if there was anything to the car that might make it a decent short term "investment". If nothing else, maybe someone here will see something they like about it and I can pass along the appropriate info - I promise I have nothing involved in the car - I was just looking for an excuse to go for a drive yesterday and found out about this car for sale about an hour away. Don't see these very often in my neck of the woods...

You probably already figured out that the chassis is an 1970T (Karmann, 4.126 produced). For the engine you have to look at the number right next to the fan. Starts with a 6. More then happy to check my Porsche Red Book for you.

She looks pretty solid. Depending on leak down numbers $12k sounds pretty good. I dont think the engine is original because it is a 7R case. Stronger than the original 1R or 3R, but not original. See if you can find out more engine details. Looks like the dizzy is a bosch too.

Are the light and gage (oil presure) tied to same source (Sending unit)? Just wondering about the no oil pressure and light. Car did not sound too bad as far as engine noise is concerned, but defintely needs some tunage effort. It defintely was missing and stumbling a bit.

I dont think the sending unit is wired up. Check the pic at the end of the chain tensioner oil feed line.

Definitely get a leak down. That iwll tell you if the stumbling is because I worn engine or a tuning issue.

Love the color.

The front suspension pan looks shot from this picture. The pan looks original, and they almost always need replacement. At a minimum the undercoating needs to come off the pan inspected and repaired as needed.

from what I saw, it looked to be surface rust only, but more investigation would be warranted. From what I remember looking into trunk, it looked pretty solid.

A 1970 911T is such a nice car.

It doesn’t need any ‘Bling’.

Yes, it benefits from suspension improvements.
Yes, it benefits from larger and more powerful engines.
Yes, sufficiently larger tires & wheels fit under the rear without mod.

Bring this car back from the abyss of abuse.

A 1970 911T is such a nice car.

Best,
Grady

FYI, the exhaust is an ANSA or Monza. Figure you give up about 5 hp for the sound it makes.

there are a lot of different years going on in this car. the seats, the steering wheel, the engine, the rear flares. The good thing is there all easy returned to stock OR advanced to a RSR looking beast. Could be a great investment.

That would make a great '73 RSR project. Ask the owner if Motor Meister did any work on that engine...it has the "red fan of death". If so, run far far away.
