CIS interchangability

While rumaging through Pull-A-Part this weekend I was thinking about CIS and the engines it was stardard equipment for....

Hmmm, that VW Scirocco has CIS.... Hmmm, maybe that Audi as well...

What parts could/are interchangable from "other" CIS equiped cars that could be useful on our CIS equiped 911s?

The prices are soooo cheap at Pull-A-Part joints it is worth the PITA of running through CIS parts to find some that work.

Maybe it is impossible, but worth the time to think about.

After all Porsche is not that far removed from VW/Audi. I just pulled some parts off of a 924 that perfectly fit on a VW baywindow bus! The parts just had Porsche numbers versus VW/Audi numbers.

Thanks,

Older Mercedes had CIS. Fuel distributor is very similar, V8 model has 2 ports closed off for use on the Porsche 6 cylinder.

Adrian,

I've been to the pull a part over here in Norcross. The Volvo's and VW's have some interchangeable parts, not much though.
Mostly fuel related items - fuel lines, maybe pressure regulator, refrigeration compressor and if you want, used injectors.

Fuel distributor is only for four cylinder engines (VW) five cylinder (Volvo). The air flow box is designed differnet.

The Pull-A-Part in Norcross is exactly the one I went to as well.

I was figuring some of the warm-up regulators and all that stuff maybe interchangable... Maybe not.

I have seen a few Type 4 motors (914) using CIS conversions that they claim came from other VW cars so I thought there may be more uniform parts.

Thanks,
