Guys,

I placed an order with the Zuffenhaus guys ... Could not deliver.

I placed an order with Fikse ... Could not deliver.

I placed an order with Forgeline ... HOME RUN !!!!!

The guys @ Forgeline are professionals and they delivered a fabulous product exactly when they said they would.

The stock-look of the Zuffenhaus is certainly an attractive attribute of the wheel, but if you are pissed off after waiting for a year or more I'd rather just buy a Chevy and put some ugly Cragers on it!

Regards, Dave

All of the Forgeline's we order get shipped before the date they quote us....

cheers

Thanks Jeff

I'm new to all of this so appreciate any advice I can get before placing an order with anyone.

Most custom wheels take a while to make. I think the quickest-to-get customer-spec wheels are the C70s, which you can get built in about a month.

HRE C70

As soon as my stock 16" tires are worn out I will need to undergo this search as well. Since the selection of 16" tires are almost non existant, I will likely move to 17" wheels. Having read all the Zuffenhaus threads from initial development by Jeff, I can't believe they still have such a long delay. Authentic Fuch look are my priority and Zuffenhaus nails it, plus they are lightweight. Rota Fox is another one to consider. I do like the the HRE C70.

Tough decision, but if I had to move quickly, I would keep the OE 16'" Fuchs and go with 17" C70 wheels

Byron mentions Harvey - I heard Harvey has a 4 month wait to get wheels refinished. I waited over 90 days for Al Reed (yes, is wife was sick, and yes, I was understanding) Jim at Tru Design was pretty quick with my other set of wheels - so I guess I can not complain.
Harvey has had that set since May, and still no word and I have used Jim as well, great guy to work with and may have him build me a set of 17s, but Harvey is the only one who could restore my other set of wheels back to perfect factory spec..

Fact is, if you want custom and you want quality, you must be willing to wait..
The car that the wheels go on if a 1 of 1 color on a limited 1 year only build, so it has the have little things perfect..

I have a set of 9 & 11 x17 3 pc Fuchs/BBS with 255 fronts & 315 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Less than 3K miles on the tires.

Where are these wheels manufactured currently? Although there were a few bumps along the way, I love these wheels. Thanks Jeff.

I got my CCW's in 9 & 11 1/2 x17 in ten (10) days. http//www.ccwheel.com

Of course they may cause the purists to cringe, but they are light, true and only cost $2,200.00 for the set.

gumba 01-12-2011 02:28 PM

zuluracerx sent you a pm.

This is a slight sidetrack, but I think it's worth mentioning.

I'm producing a few items for early 911's right now.., exact reproductions of original rare parts for 65 to 73 911's. Items such as the original brass base material muffler tip with the square'd off tip. 67S only chrome and aluminum pieces. Houndstooth fabric, etc.

The issues that I'm finding right now is a complete slowdown in the manufacturing process. You would think that in this economy that it would be easy to get things done as there is a lot of latent manufacturing space. Well, this is wrong. Manufacturers have fired people, downsized their capabilities, shuttered factories, and mothballed machinery.

My lead times are double (at a minimum) of what I've been originally quoted. I've spoken to others involved in similar businesses, and they are all saying the same thing. Also, the time it's taking to get a "fix" on a proto and for it to get corrected and a new sample delivered is unreal as well. I think I could get my work done much faster in a better economy based on what I know now.

I thought I'd add my own .02 to this...

regards,
Eric

Well, I guess there's no need to ask when the centerlock hubs & wheels will become available...that's likely to happen only when the high-demand bread and butter fuchs wheels get upand running.

I WILL wait for those items!

gumba 01-13-2011 05:42 AM

Jim Torres in SoCal sells the center lock hubs & wheels.

For many reasons. The biggest of which is that I don't think I could afford the therapy....

Isn't that what all the Porsches are for?

Sorry if my above post was confused with you being part of the reason why wait times are so long. I meant it as a thanks for putting quality above a quick buck.

But I am confused by requiring full payment up front aren't they getting a quick buck, a whole bunch of them as a matter of fact? Please don't get me wrong back when I was talking to Jeff about these I knew then they would be a quality product that is not in dispute at all. The aggravation of having to wait a year for anything is not what anything is about especially not Porsche's. Jeff I totally understand where you are coming from I wish you had not sold the rights in the beginning I think things would have been different now.

efhughes3 01-13-2011 03:32 PM

Yep, they are capturing the high interest rates of today...

I view them as a custom wheel. Custom anything often requires at least a substantial pre-payment.
