Zuffenhaus Fuchs.....what is the current wait time for delivery on these?

Read thru the old Jeff Alton Fuchs post, and someone supposedly ordered a set in Jan 2010 and as of Oct, still hadn't received them.

Are super long delivery times still an issue with these wheels?

Would really like to get a set of the RSR finish 17x9 and 17x11 Zuffenhaus Fuchs, but 1 year plus delivery schedules still don't sit too well with me.

As others have noted, there really is no other choice for a wheel like this.

Curious what others think and what recent experiences are....

Thx

By no other choice, do you mean 17" and forged? I guess the 16" are still available from Porsche right? I wonder if the company that makes the 16's is the same one that makes the new 19's?

Yes 17", forged, with the right proportions and rim profile.

Seems like very few folks are purchasing these wheels these days?

Perhaps the long and unknown delivery schedule has spooked most people from making the plunge?

Anyone else have a take on this?

The wheels on e.g. the Sportclassic are Fuchs lookalikes made by Porsche. They are cast!
Fuchs does make new style Fuchs wheels too.(OTTO FUCHS Felgen: Home)
Why Porsche does not use those, I do not know. IMO it would be nice to have genuine Fuchs on Porsche again. Guess I'm a bit nostalgic.

New Fuchs made by Fuchs....

OP, sorry, didn't mean to sidetrack your post. One year deliverytime is way too much, but they are very nice wheels if you want to go 17'.

I have also been looking into buying Zuffenhaus RSR style 17x9 and 17x11.
Wow did not know of this long time for delivery :-(

Maybe go for Lindsey then even though I like zuffenhaus more....

In the next week, I will give Zuffenhaus a ring to see what is up with these wheels.
Let everyone know what I find out.
I would much prefer the 3 pc Zuffenhaus to the Lindsey variety.

The new Fuchs don't look right at all....and don't have the correct offsets for us early car guys.

I was about to order the Zuffenhaus Fuchs copies last January. When I was told that I would have to pay the entire $3500 up front and that the wait would be twelve to sixteen weeks, I decided against them. A week or two ago I discovered from another Pelican that he ordered and paid for the wheels in January and was still waiting. In addition to very, very poor delivery times, some people have also experienced a couple of manufacturing problems with the wheels. If your do a search you'll see what I'm talking about.

In fairness to Zuffenhaus, the wheels do look great, and they are very light. But there are lots of terrific wheels out there--new and used. I ultimately decided to go with HRE.

Taking payment up front and then not delivering product is a major sign of a company in distress. I won't risk doing business with them, for any product.

Thumbs up Order from Zuffenhaus

Hello Doug;
I ordered four new wheels from Zuf in July and haven't received the wheels nor heard a word from them.
But I'm optimistic! Maybe they'll show up at my doorstep tomorrow and I'll forget about the wait. Hope that helps with your decision.

I don't think that Zuffenhaus is a company in trouble. They have a superb reputation. And they are doing excellent work at the moment for at least one Pelican on the Turbo forum. I think that this Fuchs fiasco is the exception, and chances are they probably regret ever having gotten into this awkward position. But I certainly agree with you that it casts a worrisome shadow over an otherwise fine company. Just my opinion.

I hope that the Zuff folks can get caught up at some point. But I know the wheels take a long time to produce. As I recall each center takes 8-10 hours on a mill to machine, so that's one set of centers a week or thereabouts. And the outer rimshells are unique to this wheel too, and take far longer to roll that a traditional Kodiak or Fikse lip would. These are truly very custom wheels.

As the person who got the very first set of customer wheels from Jeff Alton way back and started the "post them as you get them" thread, let me say the wheels are fantastic. They've now seen 2 years of track use and are still perfectly round and true. They're lighter than just about anything else out there too. And they're a far more accurate representation of the factory Fuchs than the ones that cut the centers out and weld into 17" rim pieces. These just look right.

How strongly do I feel about these wheels? Not long after I'd received my first set of wheels I had Jeff machine me another set of centers. Theyve been collecting dust for far too long in my basement so it's time to have rim shells made so I can complete my second set of these wheels. (actually only 3 of them are int he basement, the 4th resides under the coffee table in my living room as a conversation piece- a red powdercoated Fuchs wheel center) The only question is should I make them 17's or 18's?

I certainly haven't given up on Zuffenhaus yet....despite the delays.

I spend a lot of time out of the country, so an extended wait isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me.

Another + for the Zuff wheels. Mine were in the first batch too, and I've no issues.

I only know of one manufacturing issue at the onset, and that was rectified very swiftly. It had nothing to do with the rim halves or centers.

I love mine. Hopefully one of the Zuffenhaus folks can chime in on the OP's question.
