I was par-rusin' through the Rennlist classifieds the other day and I saw a set of 964 rear brake lights/center reflector for sale.
I looked at it for a bit, thinking to myself how 964s look really good with the sloped rear signals and center reflector. Meanwhile, in the more secluded and more less ignored side of my brain was mindlessly thinking about the C2 conversions for older 911s. How in a wy, it would be neat, but not with my car...964s look good, but mines no 964... All the while the more prominant side of my mind is still looking at this picture of the C2/4 rear signals and center reflector. Then it occured to me.... in a flash of genious, not unlike my vision of total world supremacy; ...why not put 964 rear signals and sloped center reflectors on stock 2nd generation bumpers? Would it work? Would it look out of place? ***Disclaimer*** This was just a thought. I'm not really thinking of throwing money at something like this... I was just wondering if it would make for some good discussion. You have to admit...the C2/4 lights look pretty good. ![]()

OMIGOD...the almighty SCWDP founder and enforcer...considering bastardizing his SC with 964 lights?
![]() ![]() Actually, I've wondered the same. Shouldn't they all fit? 964s basically had the same body, right? My friend's brother has a '85 Carrera (bastard...this was supposed to be my car) that he converted to 946 look. He said he had some difficulty with the rear lenses and lights. Me? I wanna put the 993 rear reflector and lights on mine. But then again, anything will fit....with some custom fabrication!

I think the sun is baking your brain!!!
the center reflector I dislike becsue of the clear porsceh script... and what is the deal with the rear turn signals....are the red? are they pink, are they orange? I like my euro SC turnsignals orange and red...solid colors... and I like the BOLD black Porsche lettering... Leland...you already have a carrera cooler...cup wheels...now this!!! Hey DZ do I hear a coup d' etat????? hahaha...hurry home maybe you can make it for MMarsh's engine drop MJ |

Well i just like the sloped appearance.
There's nothing "wrong" with the earlier lights. I'd have to agree with you though... sometimes i've seen them almost look pink or something. The lack of the black script doesn't bother me. I think it looks more modern. But it's all a matter of taste. Btw, I got all of the CDs to work without a hitch except for one. Thanks!!!!!!!!! ![]() I suppose I was just wondering if it was possible rather than actually thinking of attempting it. Oh, and "for the record". I reserve the right to add any component/doo dad/upgrade from any year 911 on my car. Masterminds can do that. ![]()

Leland,
Why not go with the full 996 GT-2000 conversion available from GT-Racing? If you are gonna do it, do it the whole way! ![]() REally though, you sure the sun and all that ordinance ain't gettin to you out there?

I'm sure it'd look pretty good- it's still a Porsche.
![]() You might be disappointed by the condensation build-up that always seems to pop up in those light assemblies. Keep it out of the sun and they won't go pink either? Right. ![]() I like the hologram Porsche logos as well. The jumbo black lettering seems a little overkill. C'mon, of course it's a Porsche. What's the need for the huge disclaimer on the reflector? Blasphemy you say? I actually prefer the early pre-74, non-reflected lighting and bumpering.

I always thought it would be SUPER COOL to have the entire rear light bar light up, but never could figure out a way to do it. Kind of like an "!" on the brake lights.
Just a thought...

Lelend, to up date to a c2 tail light system you would have to weld a tab for the turn signals, then cut the braket out behind the reflector and weld in new brakets, it wouldnt be easy to change back, but sorry guys the tail lights do look better then the sc's, I did a c2 conversion to my 82 targa and truely love it, but the car was NOT A PERFECT CAR NOR WOULD IT EVER BE, There was really no rust but everything was tired not to mention being sideswiped, backed into, and a gutter full of ice breaking the windshield fender etc, all in three months, and I make no bones about it when people ask it is a sc, Im sorry to say, but i love them all i dont care as long as it says porsche and have owned several different models from water to air and have loved them all, I have even started to like the new ones as they are starting to look less, whats that word, RICE, the 99's just were not aggressive enough, to wimpy looking but some of the changes like the wide body after market spoilers etc are brining them around, I know some dont agree on the conversion on my car, but, its my car, and i think it looks incredible, but I have seen pictures of your car and i think it looks incredible, If the sc's want to take over the world thats fine, I guess my cars a half breed, but its strill an incredible chick magnet. lol, Kevin

Kevin, thanks for the info.
Obviously there is a bit more to it than I had originally thought. It sounds like something that would not be too big of a deal when your car is already being stripped for flairs, bumpers, and fresh paint...but I'd imagine that it would be pretty tricky trying to cut/welf/fabricate brackets and such while trying to avoid damaging your paint and stuff. Well it was a good idea.... until you proved otherwise anyway!!! Btw, I like your car. Nobody around here will bash on you for modifying your car....wel maybe Paul Donkin... but other than that. ![]() I've thought about the bumper update in the past. The 964s are a very good looking car. My only justification was weight saving over the heavy aluminum bumpers... not a very good justification for a car that has only been tracked "once". ![]() Plus, I really like the old safety bumpers as well... they stir up images of what guys my age "automatically" think a Porsche should look like. ![]() But I definately have no problem with changing my car to the way that pleases me.... "me". So therefore, I totally aggree with you... it's your car...do what you want.... (well not a V8 swap)...but you get the point. ![]() There's another member who has done a C/2 conversion on his car.... SCBlackdiamonds??? That car looks killer... .plus Rarlyl8... and others...

Leland, after four years it was time for a change it was either the body or the car, I was getting tired of the car but the body has changed that, im gonna convert it to a cab, I think im at the other extreme of most Porsche owners i like to drive my car and drive it alot, i live in the snow belt and in three summers i have driven it 30,000 miles, (the car sat most of this summer do to damage)plan a couple trips to road america 725 miles each way, if i had a good picture you would really like this one if you like the c2 wide body, Hopefully will put the rockers on tomorrow, I would really like to put a 993 motor in it, i think i could deal with it for four more years, but have had my eye on a c2 turbo, The only place a v8 belongs is in my super late stock car, I can only think of one other person that is as crazy about Porsches as me (except you guys on the board) he drives a 1997 wide body year around even in the snow, anyway, always enjoy your post, Take care of your self while over seas, Kevin

Maybe it's time to think of it another way. Get rid of the reflector altogether:
![]() Long Live the Long Hood Brotherhood! Muhahahah... ha - er, ha. ![]() Nah, I just can't pull off the whole diabolical-scheme-to-rule-the-world thing. Back to work.

Leland ???? I have no objections at all to Kevin, or you for that matter, driving a "chick magnet". My BIG problem with cars that are chick magnets? Even if a chick followed me home, Cindy wouldn't let me keep her. ![]() |

'Sokay Kevin...Leland & I were just having fun. I hope you didn't think it was at your expense, because that wasn't the intention. IMHO some of the better cars on this board are modified...let's see, there's Randy W, Randy J, Jack O, MMARSH, Curt's beauty, and I'm leaving folks out. Georgous machines all...and all hot rods. Last May, at Cambria, Freeman Thomas commented that the 911 was a natural for hot rodding, because of the easy interchangeability of parts. Freeman is head of Daimler/Chrysler design, he also designed the Audi TT. And he owns a couple of the early 911 P cars...one a hotrod, the other "original".
