Need help with msd install

Installing an msd-6btm, i have everything figured out except the wires to the distributor, msd tech says my single wire to the distributor is actually 2 wires, one is spiral wrapped around the main wire. Before i cut it i would like to here from someone here who has installed msd in their car. What did you do here?

The plug to the original CD has the green wire split to two pins. Rather than cut mine I just connected the MSD to the original plug with spades.
