We have a car in the stable that has an old Haltech F7 for fuel management, and an old Electromotive crank fire ignition system, the car runs great.. Over 600hp..
Having said that, I would toss the Electromotive ignition, and opt in for the full Megasquirt system.. |

This weekend I am implementing the crankfire ignition (EDIS), which is also controlled by Megasquirt. I also wanted to try this ignition system out and Tony was game to let me try it out on his engine........(success, it fired up, with little drama yesterday). Thanksgiving weekend I will install this engine into Tony Otero's 911 (IROC clone) with a little help from my friends. Tony is the Beta tester and I'd like his feedback regarding the fit, finish and functionality.....and, after that design review, make the required changes. I have my drawings out for quotes, which I expect to receive in the next two weeks......this will allow me to provide a good price. Thanks for the interest. Feel free to email me at koz@x-faktory.com Regards, Al |

I had an older Electromotive ignition, as well, and really liked it. It was simple and worked very well, but I am finding that Megasquirt offers a powerful combo of affordability and functionality. You do have to study up,(lots of functions and lots of of documentation, forums, support, etc.) to gain an understanding of how to program it, etc....but, once you overcome the learning curve.....it's a nice unit. Regards, Al |
Sound great Al. I most likely would go with a complete MS3.x system and their programmable ignition system using whatever coils/parts you guys come up with that works. The HPV-1seems to work fine but I don't like the flimsy dial setup and the old Webers are good (and valuable) but will never be as good as EFI..

Augustus, Yea...I love that. I have a nice set of Keihins on the shelf. That's the direction I was headed, before the EFI bug struck, but I will go back and do those too.....in my spare time. I think that I've seen some other videos of that car on the street. Is that a Rauh Welt creation? Gotta love it. great DIY hotrod vibe. Thanks, Al |
I must be missing something and so I've got to ask... What do you do about an air cleaner with those nice tall skyscrapers on top of the TB's? I've seen ITB's with and without air cleaners on top in photos. Are the ones without air cleaners just posing for pictures?

No, it's not you, it's me that missing something....air filters. I have several filter "socks" that I am looking at, including the very minimal snap on screens with circular foam filters. Although I love the look, and unimpeded airflow aspects, of the unfiltered stacks, I wouldn't suggest anyone run on the streets, for very long, in that condition. These things will suck in small dogs and low flying birds, etc. You need something to at least filter out the big chunks. Regards, Al PS: I'll be posting the filter choice soon. PSS: If you get over to the West side of the Cascades, stop on bye and check things out. |

Today was the day, all the setting and testing was done. Now comes the fun part, putting it all together. Al and me took the engine over to Tony's (Wolverine) house for instillation. Here are the first pics of the big blue machine. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1290917519.jpg

For Al and Tony this is james brown, signing off to the nearest bar! |
Thanks for the helping hand and the pix today James. Good times........ I'm beat now and medicating with a little vino, but I'll be back at it Monday morning and next Friday/Saturday. That last pic of Tony, propping the engine lid open, with the light emanating from the engine compartment is great.
Regards, Al |
thx for posting all those pics - very impressive

Great update guys! Thanks for taking the extra time with the pictures!!

BRAVO!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful work!!! Seriously AL, let me know when u are taking 'deposits' for your kit and put me down for one. This is the system that i have been dreaming of for quite some time...a simple, cost effective ITB EFI set-up, true to the heritage and beauty of the RSR slide valve systems of old. Stunning!!! BTW, did i mention that i am a Triumph fantatic? I often ride my trusty '98 T595 to work. This will allow me to combine both of my loves on a regular basis, LOL:D |
Thanks Al, let me know about next weekend.
|
Thanks Al.
I am amazed! Great job looks so cooool. I am planning to rebuild a 3.0l and would be interested in purchasing your system when it's ready. put me on your list. Thanks Jeff |

Brad, Thanks for the interest..........................and to all others that have expressed interest in this project. The EFI engine has been installed in Tony's (Wolverine) IROC clone and I have it pretty much all wired up, while Tony works on the plumbing. I expect that he will be posting some progress shots soon. I have received some quotes for the machined parts and I have the pricing 98% complete, so all of those that have expressed interest, I will get back to you by this weekend. Also, while I have been working on the install, I've purchased more parts and I am making minor changes to improve the design.......It's making things take a bit longer, as I fiddle about, but I just want to get it right...........I have also progressed on a configuration that uses MFI throttle bodies. This design will be on the engine test stand....using my 2.7S engine, before January is through. I will post as I go. I am also designing adapters that will take the place of the Weber manifolds entirely and accept the Speed Triple Throttle bodies as a direct bolt-on..............I've been busy, but I apologize for being late in updating and mostly in getting back to folks in a timely manner. Stay tuned................I am close. |
Thanks for the update Al.

this IS going to be great...can't wait Al... :-)

Impressive work! |
I have been watching this thread for a while. Great work.
I would like more information on how you assembled your throttle rod to cable adapter on the old CIS linkage plate. FYI I did not see what MS code you are running. I found that the MSII-Extra code works great. Make sure the 16x16 table option is selected. This will give you valuable resolution when tuning the ITBs. compress the MAP transition section to give more bins. Most likely the VE table will have a steep ramp up above 77-80 kPa. Keep up the great work! |
Al, no need to apologize as we ALL know how long these projects take. Keep up the great work!!

Looks similar to my project, triumph itb's, zenith manifold, Megasquirt, Edis 6.
Take a look, DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker :: View topic - Meagsquirt EFI on a 2.2T - Just gets better and better Tim |

I'll PM you about details once it's all set...I have a set of known-good weber carbs yet to be installed, but this one trumps them for sure! |
that is very cool tim

That is very cool. Congrats on the start up. I especially like your velocity stack adapters. Nice job. Regards, al |
Just a note, that may save you some time. I had to switch to Alpha-N tuning (TPS vs RPM) from Speed Density (MAP vs RPM).
You may find, as I did, that you are left with no MAP resolution when you start to drive. Crack the throttle on the Triumph TB's and the vacuum just disappears. I too used the cable to the TB's, but made a crude "slide". Yours looks a lot neater. I left the TB's bolted together, just as Triumph intended and "stretched" the port spacing in the adaptor plate (Well Gary71 did this bit). This saved re making the fuel rail. Did this change affect the TB to TB linkage ? or do they still reach ? The top of the stacks is quite close to the underside of the parcel shelf isn't it ? Great work BTW. Tim |
Tim,
Thanks for the tip. Where were you plumbed in for your map signal? I did opt for the cable actuation for the TB's, but I also have the standard carb x-bar/linkage design going forward in my shop, as well as a design that uses MFI throttle bodies, mounted to 930 spacers, modded for EFI, etc. I opted to stretch the TB spacing, slightly to match the Weber manifolds. This does change the TB to TB linkage, but not too difficult to mod them. I opted to buy the fuel rail blanks and machine them for this application. These were also machined to accept AN-6 fittings, etc. I also have a stretched manifold adapter design that allows the use of the TB's,and fuel rails as is. I'm trying, and will probably offer, several options. The top of the stacks, once we installed this in Tony's IROC, were a bit too tall. I cut them down just slightly and they now fit beautifully. regards, Al |
For the MAP, I used push fit pneumatic fittings like this SMC | Pneumatics and Hydraulics | Pneumatic Fittings and Tubing | Fittings - Push In | Bulkhead Adaptors and Manifolds |KM13-06-10-3
pushed onto the Triumph idle control pipe stub. I loop it all together, and feed off this for Brake booster, fuel regulator reference, and Megasquirt (Now blanked off). Cheers Tim |
