K&N Filter Mod for Easier Air Correction Jet Changes

Changing the Air Correction Jets on my Zeniths is now much faster, after this modification to the base plate of my K&N Filter kit. I simply cut the section between the existing holes to create a large enough opening to get to the jets.

Before the mod, in addition to the (8) locknuts & Washers holding the cover on, you had to remove the (12)nuts and lockwashers, (6) velocity stacks, and (6) gaskets, (2) baseplates, and (2) delicate 3-hole gaskets. It was the thought of dropping the smaller nuts and washers down the stacks that worried me.

Now, I can pull off the rain cover, pull the filters and immediately dive in and change the Air Correction Jets (and pull the Emulsion Tubes if I want to). It's a little bit of a reach in there, but without the risk of an open port. I think the Velocity Stack adds a measure of safety for avoiding the dreaded dropped jet on the butterfly trick.

I did notice the baseplate warped a little during the mod. Since the picture was taken, I added (8) 4mm cap screws to hold the baseplate between the velocity stacks. The Zeniths have tapped holes, just like the Webers, for mounting a small screen over the air jets and float chamber vents. I used these tapped holes to hold the baseplate flat to the top of the carburetor body.
