Auto Heat - Specific Question
Hello, like many others on this board, I am trying to diagnose my lack of heat in my 1984 Targa with Auto Heat.
This weekend, I removed the passenger seat and checked to see that the rod was still attached. It is. Next, I detached the rod in front and made sure that I can mover the lever opening and closing the air flappers. It was OK. Next, I lubed them(rear flappers) to ensure smooth operation. I tried moving the lever that attaches the rod on front, and I was able to move back and forth. And it is apparent that the cables to the rear are working OK. Next, I tried moving the rod itself, which would not move at all. Is this normal? I know this subject has been beaten to death, so I will only ask specific questions. Thanks for reading.

Have you checked all the fuses? I don't have my book handy so i can't say which fuse #'s to check. You won't be able to move the rod connected to the servo motor.
You've discovered that you can leave the rod off and manualy raise the lever so you can get some heat that way. Not sure if the blower motors will turn on with just the lever raised but they might.

Thanks so much. Looks like my rod is attached and normal. Now onto the "bataan death march" of electrical diagnosis.

Are the footwell blowers working? You can see the rod activation by removing the E-brake rubber cover, and using a small penlight. And as per pete3799, you cannot move the rod. I doubt that the heater control unit relay, or the heater control unit has failed. Good luck, Gerry

Thanks, Gerry! Prior to last year the heat was awesome! I will definitely check the fuses you mention above. At the moment, I cant hear any fans going, so hopefully this will be fuse related. As soon as I figure it out, I will post the resolution.
