6 speed conversion clutch question

I have a 6 spd out of a '95 993 that I am mating up to a '78 3.3 ltr turbo engine.

My question is, what clutch do I use?

I am not planning on shortening the bell housing, I am going to modify the torsion tube and run coilovers.

The engine was swapped into a 87 G50 car a few years ago and they used the stock G50 clutch I was told.... I bought the engine after that car had been parted out.

This is going in a 79SC ala RUf tribute,

So what do you think? Any ideas, Bill V do you have any advice?

Thanks

I don't know for sure but if they used the g50 clutch previously then that's what you would do too. It depends on application and your sensitivity to gear rattle but a single mass flywheel and late clutch disk should work well for you. The 964RS single mass flywheel and updated versions of the clutch pp and disk have been used right up through some of the 997 models. If you contact one of Wayne' sales staff I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction,

Thanks Bill,

With the transmission I am also getting the stock 993 clutch, pressure plate, and TO. Do you think these may work for what I need?

I guess I am a little ahead of myself until I get everything in the same room and check it out. Just doing a little pre planning.....

yes, they would work on any engine set up for a g50, but stock 993 will be a dual mass flywheel. That may or may not be what you want to use. Again if the engine was previously used w/ a g50 it should all bolt up.

What chassis is this all going in? The 993 g50 is considerably longer than earlier g50s?

Thanks Bill,

I am shooting for a sort of RUF CTR tribute car. Not a clone because of the cost involved but more of a tribute to the concept behind his vision with Porsche's.

This will all be going in a 79SC chassis that has a good base with suspension and brakes and such.

I know I have a fun (tough) road ahead of me on modifying the TB tube. I plan on doing the full coil-over conversion with bracing etc.

Good thing is I can do all this myself as I have built several full chassis race cars over the years.

My confusion is with the depth of the dual mass flywheel compared to a regular one. This is where I am wondering about clutch setup.

Here are a few pics of the flywheel that is on the engine. If I need a new flywheel that is fine, I just don't want to spend an obscene amount of money to find out I got the wrong stuff.

I'm really not sure, I've never worked on a 930 clutch.

That looks like a non Motronic single mass f/w

Jeff, i've got a stock '87 G50 clutch housing and rubber disc if you'd like them to test-fit. That flywheel is indeed a 87-89 single mass 3.2 flywheel. I also have one of those for cheap if you want it. The one shown looks a little bit heat-beaten?

Dennis' thread is indeed helpful for chassis fitment, but in terms of clutch assembly i'd not rely on too much of his efforts. By his shortening the bellhousing, that completely changes the clutch requirements for a non-shortened 6 speed.

I say start with the stock 5 speed components and see where that gets you. The bellhousings were mostly the same if I recall correctly? I know the shortened 5 speed I was involved in was also 28mm shorter. So that leads me to believe the bell section of the final drive case are mostly the same?
