The project looks like it is coming along nicely. Too bad you didn't have access to 930 calipers. They would have been a better fit with the project.
Raising the spindles 30mm allows you to lower the front of the car 30mm compared to stock while maintaining the stock factory suspension geometry. |
Killer build. Sub'd.
Cheers, Johan |
Some finishing touch's with holes and a rubber strip to go around to protect the lines and tidy it up.

Be careful. There is not much room behind those early bumpers
This was mine and it was a tight fit, like, no extra room. The later impact bumper profiles have lots but not the 73 RSR bumper. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317680480.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317680503.jpg build thread with oil cooler page http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317680737.jpg Hope these pics help. It took a lot of patience and a bit of massaging of the fiberglass to get it to fit behind (NOTE: in the end the pair of bottom cut outs on the bumper were not necessary) P.S. If you would like, I can come back and remove these pics from your thread once you have what you need, |
Thanks Wayne,
All sorted, I had located and trial fitted with the front bumper on, confident it's all clearing nicely, actually the bottom of the cooler will help to keep the bottom of fibreglass bumper straight... hopefully the gap to bonnet will be good. Quote:

Been a busy few weeks, wanted to get it out of my garage for the winter.
SSI's fitted, had to do a insert repair on one stud. Engine and Trans installed, not all plumbed up as I ran out of time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464685631.jpg |
Ride Height and alignment done
May sound a bit funny to get alignment finalised at this stage when it's no where near finished or got all the weight in but I want to finalise my guards, complete my wheel spec's and decide if I need high clearance oil lines.
The answer is pretty much yes to everything! Took me three goes to get the height correct, ended up with the spring plates at 21 degrees which looks great! rubs on guard lip and on inside top where the oil lines are so will push wheels out some more, modify the flares and probably go high clearance oil lines as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464685997.jpg Pretty sure the front is right but that is a easy one to adjust. Rake is currently just under 1 degree but I'm not concerning myself with that too much. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464686086.jpg |
My alignment spec's are close to where I was heading.
Front Camber 0.75deg Negative Toe In 1.0mm Castor couldn't get as my brakes are not operating and can't lock front wheels Rear Camber 1.75deg negative Toe In 1.0mm Front and rear camber is at max adjustment, think that will be fine for street use.... not really concerened with tyre wear as won't be doing big mileage. |
I love it!

Painting is under way.
Dropped the car to the painter 3 weeks ago before I left overseas on a few trips.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476763861.jpg Called into paint shop today to check what progress has been made... pretty happy! Hi-build primer laid down after some fill work completed in areas where required. Roof is finished. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476763981.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476764008.jpg The rear guards needed the most work due to past issues, so far very happy how they have come up... will get a better idea closer to undercoat stage. They will work on all the bolt on pieces next, doors, hood, boot and bumpers. They still seem happy with the pre Christmas delivery date :) |
Window frames for Anodizing
While car is away at paint shop I wanted to prepare the window frames, trims ready for install.
It's taken a while to get all the items together as I didn't have complete until now, just waiting on the Left hinge so I can drop all together. Basic plan is... clean, strip, polish and Bright Anodize. Not going to be a cheap exercise between me and two vendors to complete the full process but something that can't be avoided as they are currently Black and rough. Will keep you posted on progress. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477357795.jpg |
Its painted - Salte Grey
Haven't loaded some pic's for a while but it's now painted!
I went with Slate Grey, very happy with it too. I was originally looking at Black like Black Beauty but my panel guy talked me out of it plus I have a Black car for a daily driver and it annoys me constantly. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1487877888.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1487877888.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1487877888.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1487877888.JPG |
The seats
I have brought quite a few of the Cobra RS seats in the past and sold to friends, I did a slightly different look for my pair wit the Basket Weave and eyelets which look very cool.

So now it's the assembley process which is a nice change... very time consuming and slow locating all the parts I'm missing and refurbing the ones that need it.
My Pelican project list gets longer every week :) Only a couple more people involved in the car now, Auto Electrical guy and I'm getting the hood lining and Dash done by an upholster friend as it looks a pain in the arse and I haven't seen too many that have come out perfect as a DIY... and my patience is less that those guys :) |
Love Slate. Lookin' good.

amazing!!!
|
The best color for a RSR if you'd ask me! you nailed it.
|
So minty

Looking fantastic. Nice work.

Overdue update starting engine 12/4/17 :)
Good progress has been made over the last two months, lots of little things been knocked off in the background.
The major success has been the installation of the New Fuse Panel (Thanks Fred Cook) and old wiring harness, this has been gone through thoroughly, checked and repairs done where required. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491901124.jpg Got around to making up the brackets for my twin brake bottle reservoirs, stuck with two the same size as I couldn't seem to locate the bigger one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491899980.jpg I had to get some new Front brake caliper mounts made as the first set had been modified and re-welded which unfortuantley is not allowed here when checked for Road Warrant. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491900137.jpg Heaps of time spent cleaning and painting parts etc then assembling to the car, very time consuming along with sourcing missing parts. I had quite a lot of parts from a wrecked RHD SC which was where the engine and trans came from. That has caused some dramas with parts that are specifically handed like Windscreen Wiper Motor/ crank drive plus Heater Blower box etc. Fuel Tank and system is fitted, Oil lines installed and ready to flow. Big things are planned for tomorrow afternoon... start the engine :) All electrics have been checked and are ready, just need to add oil and fuel... well that's the plan. Really hope I assembled the engine correctly when I stripped it back to the long block to clean it up.... the CIS has me a little worried, fingers crossed! will report tomorrow night. |
