Building 2,7 l
Hello
I am building a 2,7 l whit 10,5:1 , tvin spark ,40 weber and 2,4S camshafts. Does anyone heave any tips about horspower output. How to set up carbs,venturies osv. Tips wanted ![]() |

What is your intended use?
What car is it going in? Weight? Any other mods? What core engine are you starting with? What pistons & cylinders? What heads? More info please. Best, Grady

I have a single plug 2.7 with JE's, 9.5:1, Solex cams, Weber 40IDA's, Nikasil etc. in a 2400lb car. It pulls very nicely and most people that get a ride in it comment on it being fast and quicker than they thought it would be. I estimate around 200whp in it's current form and around 210 with perfect tuning and a new msd ignition set up, wire, & coil. I'm going to put in all of that stuff along with a wide band tune it up and have it dynoed in the next month.
Mine is a track car that I happen to drive on the streets every now and then

I spun mine to 7100 or 7300 via the adjustable rev limiter..... mostly to the lower number in the interest of longevity. As you can see, the power drops off at 6800.....but to make that next gate without shifting........
The Solex cams are a very friendly street/AX set up. Lower/mid range end grunt is good.

The early S cams have more lift and a bunch more duration.......the 2 share lobe centers. B. Anderson's book gives a decent break down of many of the common Porsche grinds.....plus more than you can want about the development of the 911 motor.

There are newer more modern cams than the factory S cam that will make as much power but over a broader range.
Factory S cam is peaky and would probably benefit from close ratio gear set I suspect. Back in 72 when the E and S were tested back to back the E was a faster car in most repects except top speed. |

Check with "the cam grinder" / Doughty (sp). Let him know your specs, weight, transmission set up, and use.
I ran the Mod S cam in my 2.8 MFI twin plug. There is also the GE series. Not a cam expert. I know just enough to be dangerous. |
