word to the wise with paypal

I dont think this is off topic. A member recently decided to keep an item after I paid through paypal. It was no problem, and this isnt about him.But after 11 days paypal and Visa have yet to credit my debit/checking account. After painful phone conversations I was told it could take up to 30 days. My problem is I wanted to use the money to replace the unsolds parts and I cant until this comes through......payal is great, just be sure this doesnt happen if you need something quick.

Regards,

Similar problem. Made a deal for some used parts, paid for them through Paypal. Never rec'd the parts (only excuses), or a tracking number or other proof of shipment, finally filed a claim to get my money back. Same delay (currently waiting for the return of my funds), but it's nice to know that I don't have to take measures to protect a credit card number. This is the first time that I've ever had a problem like this; and I discovered that a buyer only has 45 days to file a claim. Also learned that if a claim is filed, then closed, it can't be re-opened. It's a good system, but you still have to know how to use it.

Paypal Issues.

There are much worst stories that these.......

Only a few times have I had any issues with sellers.

However, my AMEX card is linked to Paypal payments.
If there are any issues, AMEX credits my account instantly,
and sends the concern to Paypal's doorstep.

So he refunded the money and it did not show up for that long? I thought it was instant?

Every PayPal refund I have gotten has been "right now", and there have been several, both here and Ebay.

Is something going on with the seller... not being upfront, waiting to refund?

How much $$?

Paypal refunded me a "good will" fee of $60.00 dollars from a $650.00 transaction gone bad after a nine week battle with a total "A"hole from whom i purchased brake parts on this site !

They told me they couldn't get anything from the seller because he was unsolvable ...
Yeah ... whatever ...

Cheers !

I ride a horse to the bank to withdraw gold from my safe deposit box because I don't trust those newfangled infernal combustion engines or the banks or the federal reserve.

I lost over $200 to pay pal. A cash refund from a seller was considered "unsecured funds" and taken away from me when the sender went delinquent with a lot of people. I am sure it was used to pay off other people's "secured funds" transactions.

Be very careful with PayPal. I only use them sparingly now and only use my credit card for purchases. I wold rather not use them at all.

I am one of Paypal's largest merchant customers (in their top five I'm told). With the amount of revenue I pass through them you'd think they'd offer me more flexible rates, superior charge-back protection, etc. They don't. I have my complaints about them, but they also do certain things very well, and run circles around most merchant providers in terms of verification and customer service. Plus they give me a fancy looking account interface because of all the fees I generate for them.

Having said that, my recommendation to anyone purchasing parts here on this site or on evilBay, etc., is to have the seller send you an invoice through paypal for the purchase, then pay for the transaction with a credit card (Amex is the best for customer protection). If the transaction goes sour, you have way more than 45 days to protect yourself, since the transaction is governed by your credit card's rules of protection rather than Paypal's rules.

It had nothing to do with the seller. He merely refunded through paypal out of his paypal account. They then held the money ten days before they would refund my credit card. Now they say the refund has been completed but it will take up to 30 days they told me to see it refunded unto my credit card account. In the future I will not use a debit card but rather a credit card because they are not just holding credit, they are holding money out of my checking account because it was a visa debit card.

I had my credit card number stolen twice. I suspect through PayPal as that was the only anomolous transaction I did around the times. I don't use it anymore. I have used other e-commerce stuff like Flying Lizard store, SpeedTV, amazon, Pelican and never had a problem.

This is the old story of pennies!!
The bank kept all the 1/2 penny transactions and put them in interest bearing accounts.
At the end of the year it was millions of dollars in profit.
Just think, if PayPal holds all transactions for 30 days, they get the interest on the money, multiply that by the number of customer dollars, I'll bet it's not small numbers.

Bingo! I HATE having to deal with paypal if a seller or buyer and I have negotiated a refund.

I learned it the hard way. When the seller refunded money to me, it somehow takes 3-5 working days for it to clear the bank even though if I send out money it goes out of my account instantly. Then, instead of refunding my bank account, they put it in my "paypal account" WTF is paypal doing having an "account" for me? I don't remember opening a checking or savings with them. Then, once I want that money moved in to the checking account that they remove from immediately, they say it will be another 3-5 business days, minimum before it credits.

F'd up, man. To take two weeks to do a simple transfer that they would otherwise do instantly can't be legal.

It seems paypal is ok as long as the transaction between buyer and seller is ok.

That's weird, cause neither am I. But any refund takes them forever. Bastards.
