Does anyone have a hint for me as to how to compress this spring enough to get it onto the anchor stud bolted to the tranny? I've tried a C clamp and a large pair of channel lock pliers. Both w/o luck.
The other posts on the topic talk about all the force needed to get this done. I'm okay providing the force, I just can't seem to get reliable "purchase" anywhere to do so. Thanks, Mark Sides '82 SC Targa |

It doesn't need to be compressed. You need to reposition the release arm. Kind of hard to explain. Swing it toward the front of the car. Which then allows you get Omega spring on the pin in the right position. Then with your fingers all out of the way pull/snap it back into postion.

remove the snap ring under the short, lower release arm, and pull it off. with that out of the way, the long, upper arm can be moved easily in order to install the spring onto the bracket. then pop it back into position with a long screwdriver, and reinstall the short arm. if the spring needs to be attached to the long arm, it too needs to be removed, and the installation done on the bench. the long arm slips off after the short arm is removed. some need more effort to get off if they're rusted to the shaft.
