Interesting... whereas the 0-60 time of the RSR is pretty good, I think the 0-100 time really shows the RSR's performance even better. Most cars that do 0-60 in the high 5 sec range do not do 0-100 in the 12's.

Having classic old cars like RSR's, 90x's, Ferrari 250GT SWB, etc... You know, really pricey ultra-classic cars, the cars that are on top because of beauty, history, Character, excellence tempered by quirkiness and weird shortcomings that must be worked with rather than solved...

It would be very hard to drive these types of cars, but I think it would be even harder not too. I don't think you'd catch me parking one in the front row of the local grocery store parking lot, but I would definitely have to have one.

Hmm, new 996 or original old RSR, that's an easy one, I'd go with the RSR. The 996 may have equal or even better capabilities, but it just doesn't have IT. Now, getting an RSR or a new GT3RS or GT2, that would be a very tough decision.

It's kind of like the difference between a woman that is really beautiful, that may not be perfect, but has some sort of unidentifiable quality that makes all eyes swivel to look and people go silent and one of those generic swimsuit girls or B-movie girls with big plastic bumpers and long bleached blonde hair. Yes the bimbo is hot, but the other just has something that is just irresistable.

Lest we forget how really good the 911's are, especially the RSR's -- here's another R&T article about the RSR's competitor from across the Alps. Note that the Ferrari Daytona race car cost almost 2x the price of an RSR. So how do they stack up?

GTB's and earlier -- I agree the Daytona begane the uglifying of the F cars. The early 911 is defintiely a classic beauty. And the Boxster is great too.

i'll stick to the 250GTO , daytona looks like a crossing of a 250gto with some muscle car... i guess that's why it's called daytona, and was mostly sold in the us... personally i don't like it...

To unfortunately close the door on the 73 RSR from the Road & Track Vs. 911S article it was owned by John Skoine in Sacramento Cal. It burned to the ground along with many other Porsches when his shop caught fire in I believe 2013 or 2014.

Not even 15 years later and 113K for an original RS sounds like the deal of the century. Add a zero or more to that 113K now. Long hoods of any model go for over 100K all the time. If only I had 113K when I was in Undergrad.

Since I hope this thread gets zombied again in another 10 years, as I type you can pick up a 997.1 GT3 for under $100k easy, and a basically zero mile / almost new 991 GT3 for $150k.

Those seem like crazy bargains compared to some of the air cooled car prices.

When I first started looking for a 911 maybe 6-7 years ago, 964 RS Americas were available in the $45k range, and I thought that was expensive. They're $100k cars now.
