Newbie question, please go easy

I have a 75 Porsche 911s with a 3.0L motor ( I think) hesitates and sputters at 3500rpm. Anything to help thanks.

What makes you think it's a 3.0?

Sputtering can be a few things. Bad fuel pump, fuel filter, clogged injectors, bad rotor, cracked cap...etc. Does it still have fuel injection or carbs?

Rob,
Welcome to the Forum
You will find a lot of help here.

Usual protocol wants you to post some images of your 911.
Add some good engine images.

Post the engine number (green arrow) and the engine type number (red arrow). (Ignore yellow)

If you have A/C, you may need a flashlight and mirror.

Once you are certain of the engine type, we can help diagnose the running issue.

Does the engine run properly above and below this rpm?

Is it more pronounced with part throttle or full throttle?

Is the hesitation and ‘sputtering’ when attempting to smoothly accelerate up through the rpm?
or
Is the hesitation and ‘sputtering’ when attempting to suddenly accelerate from some speed?

Does anything else happen (like the tach act up)?

What is the history of your car and engine?
Rebuilds, tune-ups, compression/cylinder leak measurements, service, etc.?

Best,
Grady

Grady, I was unable to find all the serial numbers in your post. One or two numbers are not clear do to some scratches.

It is a Aluminum block, has large port injection from what a Rennlister describes as. We put it in together after buying it as a package deal on Craigslist.com

Getting on the freeway, half to full throttle its falls on its face then slight back fire and few seconds its ok.. Mainly between 2800-3000. Lots of power compared to old motor.

List I looked for:
Air leaks-negative
Vac leaks-neg
Timing-tdc at idle vac unplugged
Inj boots new, war new, aar new, wires new and alt new. Bought engine as a long block missing parts.

Thanks P's for reading

Check the OHMs on the Rotor.

Mine sputtered and found the distributor inner bearing was shot and had slop that caused my sputter. Replaced with a known good distributor, dropped some engine oil down the center, BINGO sputter gone.

My rotor was shot too so Rotor and Cap was replaced as well.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD!
