I've had the pleasure to run the Nordshleife in a rented Mercedes. It is very demanding and a lot of corners sneak up on you. An unforgettable memory and a great video of the entire circuit.

Thanks Bill!

Was there with my 930 last year. A long drive down from Norway, but worth it :-)
Wow what a great experience :-)
Now I just want more :-) Maybe there will be a new trip next summer with my new 930 that I just bought.

What that saying, "he's forgotten more about driving than I'll ever know". Very Cool, thanks.

Cool video and the perfect amount of cars on the track which allows the viewer to sense how fast they are actually going. The sensation is lost with some "one car"videos.

Plus, unless that was from an actual race, the driver filming it wasn't really going all out, he was kind of holding back. I mean, on one right turn, his decision to make a "very late apex" allowed a black 911 to pass him very easily. Definitely not playing a defensive line. He was describing the "qualifying" line, not necessarily the best race line.

But still, watch that video enough, until you can recite it with him with your eyes closed, and then with the sound off, while watching and with someone else watching along with one earphone in and the other in their pocket, and then you've memorized... How to get passed by a black 911 by not taking a defensive line... Seriously though, if you can memorize it, then you should be able to practice a lap ortwo at night as you go to sleep, and from experience with doing that sort of meditation for laguna seca or sears point, it really does make a difference. You can train your brain so that you will physically perform better in "reality" in every kind of activity. Another one is golf meditate on that perfect swing by practicing it in your head, and it WILL help you get better with your real world swing.

Interesting stuff, brains.

I got it from over on Rennlist, thanks to Rassel for finding and posting it originally
it's supposed to have been produced by Porsche AG in preparation for the Porsche Carrera World Cup-race on June the 25th 2011

Ummmmm.....NO.

12.9 Miles....33 Left Turns and 40 Right Turns???!!!

Driving a "perfect" lap on any track is difficult to do even when there are only 10-15 turns. This place would take serious seat time to even feel comfortable at 9/10's. You ain't doing this one in your sleep.

I would bet it was from a VLN race. The black 997 that passed him was an RSR but Sascha and the cars he was following were just Cup Cars. They let the faster class cars pass- just like LeMans.

Hey, I'm just saying that it has been shown scientifically that athletes who do visualization exercises of what they are supposed to do can be very effective at improving their performance, and is akin, to a point, to literally practicing by doing it physically. The theory is that the brain, because it is being focused so much on a specific thing even if you are not specifically doing the action that is visualized, that it starts to lay down the foundation for the neurons that are needed to make the needed actions automatic, so that the athlete does not need to consciously think about what to do. They end up being able to, effectively, go on a type of auto-pilot, which is what physical training is all about.

I'm telling you, I've done it, methodically, and visualizing exactly how to drive a race course will help you drive better when you actually are driving it.

Thanks for posting ... just what I needed during these winter days !

Many fond memories of my pilgrimage to the 'Ring back in '05 and yes, I do believe that my hundreds of laps on GT3 helped me prepare for the real thing
