Dumb Heater Question

Before I rip into the wiring of my 76 S, does the engine have to be running to run the heater blower?

No, turn the key to on position and lift the lever, the motor will start to run

Check the lever/s, when pulled up it should engage the copper contacts, identified by yellow wires connected to it. Next check the fuse then connector at the motor for voltage.

If all good, then your motor may be shot. Remove and see if it moves freely, it may have binded by rust. Take not it's position before removing.

Well I have determined the motor is shot, it reads open and wont turn with 12 volts hooked directly to it. The wiring diagram I have is poor at best. It does not show the actual routing in the car or the control levers. I was going to start at the levers. Do both levers have to be raised for the switch to work? If so I can read for continuity of the switch from there.

Thanks for the help.

This site has wiring diagrams and they are also available on the net.

Wink

Should have checked this thread earlier. Just today went to the parts store bought a universal fan relay and wired it in. Drive a purist up the wall but the heat blower will work as advertised when I replace it.
