My perference would be a late 70s or early 80s 930, but for Texas I think the 964 or 993 sounds like the ticket.
In fact here is one for sale in the for sale forum which would be perfect, except I'm not ready to buy. I'm at least 6 months away from buying.

Gotta be air cooled? $25K buys a whole lotta 996 these days. A/C spits ice cubes. I'd find a $23K 996 and put on ROW sport suspension and never look back if I wanted a daily ride.

The 993 is the ticket. It isn't much slower than a stock 930. 25k should buy a nice example with 100k miles.
