Meet the New Guy and His Widebody SC

I recently picked up a 1980 911 SC. I used to have a 1994 C4 widebody and made the mistake of selling it. It is a steel widebody conversion and in excellent condition. Only other mods right now are a factory short shifter and MSD electronic ignition. It currently has a little over 63K miles and rolls on some custom Fuchs (8X16 front and 10.5X16 rear). My GF calls her The Mistress. I guess it will stick until I come up with something better.

I just got her detailed and she looks almost young again. Not bad for a 31-year old. She had a turbo tail on her when I picked her up, but I've since swapped it for a duck tail and am going for an RS/RSR-inspired look. I think it looks much better. The next thing is to add a '74 IROC-style front bumper.

She drives great and I'm thoroughly enjoying the air-cooled Porsche smell, mechanical sounds, and un-sophisticated ride. Getting a workout with the non-power steering, but I'm enjoying the visceral feel and connection to the road. This is what driving is all about. I'm glad to be back in a 911, but I'll have to get used to the antiquated HVAC system. It's terrible. Hans had too much lager the day they designed this system. Enjoy the pics.

Jim

nice cemetery touch, but a few things we have to change so the car is not confused with a kalifornia car. Loose the Carrera script, and the front and rear bumpers, dull the wheels with a frost color, that big cell phone mount has to go. Start thinking like the city that invented grunge, down and dirty. loud and mean. No rock guards-just let the chips fly!! i think you said the engine is stock so that's the next step, along with pulling everything you can from it (a/c, bumpers, junk in the trunk, CIS stuff). let it be free!

The car looks nice. Your IROC plans sound right-on.

Nice looking car.
Regarding Hans and the A/C system, they are anemic but Hans had limited choices as to where to locate the A/C components in the car...........evaporator up front, compressor in the back, receiver dryer in the front etc. Consequentially the coolant lines are 8-10 times longer than a "normal" car. This coupled with immature hose technology of the time yielded poor performance. With modern day barrier technology for the lines and rotary compressors the system can be made to at least be acceptable. Have fun

Nice looking car, but you really need to tone down the wheels! Too much bling, in my opinion.

Jim,
Very nice car. When that one came up for sale, I contacted the owner for more info. I decided to go for an earlier 911, so while I hesitated, you snapped it up. Congratulations. It looks great. I'd drive it for a while, before making any changes. I'm not a side script fan......less is more, but...that is such a good looking ride that I'd wait. some things grow on you...some you grow out of...

Regards,

Al

Regards,

Al
