Where do I start, car is running bad
My car is a 72 911e with PMO kit. It's been sitting for 5 years, and I just replaced the fuel pump with a Pierburg.
The car had very little gas in the tank during its storage. I put is 6 gallons of regular initially trying to get the car started. With the new fuel pump installed, I filled it up with premium gas. The fuel regulator/pressure gage is showing no pressure, as before, it fluctuated widely. I am appearing to get good fuel flow past the fuel filters to the carbs though. The car has been garaged while being stored. 1)Could it be bad/contaminated fuel? 2)Does the fuel regulator need to be adjusted coming from the MFI pump to the Pierburg? Is it adjustable? 3)Is it time to replace plugs, distributor cap, plug wires? 4)Lastly, is it time to do anything to the carbs? The car was a beast when I parked it, I know better than to let it sit for so long....Tim |

If it was running well before all this, and you are getting fuel, I would start with a tune up like #3, except same plug wires, air filter, rotor. Maybe check your air fuel mixture if that doesn't work.

After a 5 year sit i would have drained the fuel tank first.
I would also recommend you disassemble the carbs as they're likely full of crud.

"3)Is it time to replace plugs, distributor cap, plug wires?"

If it were my car, I would first pull a spark plug and see if there is good spark. If yes, then I would try getting the engine started with starter fluid just to see if it runs. If it runs I would be encouraged to try to keep it running just to hear the music of the exhaust. Then I would follow Pete's advice and clean the carbs. When they sit for that long they are bound to be full of deposits. Those little channels and jets are almost certainly not functioning properly.

So, do you have a carb car or a MFI car?
