I really should take some time and read some books and learn more about these cars. But its still kind of cool when some guy on the other side of the world can teach you somthing about a car sitting in my garage. Thanks

Hey Critter,
For what it is worth, Leland paints a good picture for what is needed to get the targa scripting off, but you do not need to take off the rear wheels. It is very awkward, but can be done. Note that there are two other fasteners near the targa bar ones in the wheel well. They hold down the front of the glass trim. Might not be a bad idea to take these off as well though, as it makes the targa bar removal easier. I believe the trim fasteners are 8mm and the targa bar ones are 10mm??? Yep, just checked the nut sizes. I would also suggest starting with the passenger side as the engine latch on the driver's side makes it more tricky. Might be alot of crud in the wheel well too around these fasteners so you might want to clean the area first. Personally, I like the silver scripting on black.

Mine are silver, and I like the look.
BUT -- I've got an original 4-color flyer from Porsche on the '83 Targa, and the script is clearly BLACK . . . as are the Fuchs spokes. Was that a trim option back then? Cheers! C. |

By Jove... I've got it!!!
It's clearly apparant to me now that the same Porsche craftsman who decided which cars got Mahles and which got K.S pistons and cylinders...*also* decided which Targas got "Black" script, and which cars got "plain" script. .................................................. .......................well it makes perfect sense to me!!! ![]()

The pictures in the 81SC sales brochure show four different coloured Targa's, all with black script's.For $15 US {$30 AUST} from Walter Miller, the brochures are definitely worth adding to your P-car library.

Mines Black w/Black script.
The earlier targa bars where silver, and so was the script. Maybe when they changed to the black bar they just kept on using the silver script!
