the good, the bad and the ugly...

the ugly...she was totaled...the bad...she is twisted beyond repair...the good...I got a fair settlement $$$ and the car...so now the dilemma..do i find a "roller pre "74 tub and "Frankenstein everything over i.e. suspension bilstiens and hollow torsion bars, 3.2 with 80k & ghl headers exhaust, 915 tranny and full leather interior dash knew pads the whole shootin match which was done 4 years ago and pretty much a "done car...or do you sell the twisted wreck and start anew?

sorry to see that but like making good lemonade, moving everything over to a 69-73 will be very rewarding! who, if anyone, did you take the car to in the area?

I had a longhood with a 3.2. Highly recommended!

so ya...can it be fixed...probably if you do't mind that odd "shimy under speed/breaking thing"......but for the $$ and 'twistedness' of the chassis..i'm thinking transplant...or sell the whole package and start anew

what kind of shape is the engine in?

re the unit body - get somebody to stick it on a Celette and see how distorted it is

Maybe it depends if you want a sequel or you've got some new ideas... Also there's time and money to consider. I'm sure if you start over it's going to take longer and you'll burn through that settlement before you're done.

Have you sat down to decide whether it's going to be something "new" or something "blue"?

longhood transplant

transplant the 3.2, and the suspension bits into a longhood. I second the recommendation.

Regards,

Al

Sorry for your misfortune..... but now that your here, find a tub, go for the conversion, your drivetrain is barely broken in, assuming it's been maintained.....you've already got a lot of the right bits. I've driven a few longhood 3.2's and would swap my 86 3.2 without hesitation

There are so many (already finished) good deals out there now...I'd take the cash and wave it around, seeing who bites.

I have to agree with D_O. Market is incredible right now. But, I'd take a quick look and then move on to the conversion if I could not find an immediate replacement.

There are a ton of mid project liquidations that can be picked up for cheap and many of them have all their metal work done or already have various panels in place... If I only had a spare $20k I could really put a nice car together (doing all work myself now) *sigh*

My car got the same hit though not as severe and I'm unhappy with the fix. I wished I'd gone the transplant route. Good luck.

IF you enjoy doing a fair amount of the work yourself (with plenty of support from fellow pelicans, right?) , and you find a nice condition rust free roller, then its a good possibility.
What i question , from the pics, is how much damage the motor and transmission suffered. If you bought back / retained the salvage at a good price, you can go ahead with some disassembly first to ascertain how bad the drive train damage is. Then decide if you part it out and make some profit, or use it for your new project.

good luck

TRE Cup - I was hoping you would weigh in...Motor and Transmission escaped intact, had them removed, put the chassis on the celette and detemined to be too twisted. The motor really hid the view of how bad the down on the right and up on the left twist was. There is a 1+ inch gap on the drivers door jamb and practically zero on the passangers side. The SUV was running a large Rhino bar...salvage cost was...ready for this..$500 with motor and transmission. Thanks for the advice, exactly what i was looking for. Now to find that roller...

fiminod, Good luck with your rebuild. I had a 79 Targa years ago. I sold it due to a move and still have my regrets. There's nothing like an SC Targa
