Pedal Cluster Dissassembly Help
Hi Folks,
I am working on rebuilding my pedal cluster. The hardest part is suppose to be getting the pin out. I was able to hammer this pin out without too much trouble. However the next step is to pry the clutch cable off the the shaft. The instructions in the tech article make it sound like this is easy, however I have pryed, hammered, and done just about everything I can, however the clutch pedal won't buge off the center shaft. Did anyone else have this problem and how did you get past it? Thanks,

At 200,000 miles, the pin in the clevis had worn about halfway thru, and there was no way to get the pin out with the pedal assembly in the car. Since I was replacing the clutch cable, I dremeled the cable, removed the pedal assembly, and removed the clutch clevis on the bench. The cross shaft that mounts the clutch cable also had to be replaced. With high time on the assembly, I took it apart and replace all the bushings and cleaned up some rust and repainted.
Here's a picture showing the worn parts where the clutch clevis hooks to the shaft in the pedal assembly. Brian ![]() |

Nice catch Brian, most likely that would have broken at night, when raining, on a bridge, in traffic!
I think Dennis is having trouble taking the clutch lever off the shaft?

Dennis, can you post a picture of the stubborn part? I just finished my pedal cluster recently, so I might be able to see what's going on. Mine is a 78 SC.

Sounds like Dennis is referring the clutch pedal lever on the shaft. They can be very tightly rusted on. Try some PB Blaster and a little heat. One trick I learned is sometimes its easier to first pound the lever a bit further on the shaft to break it loose and then twist it off.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice everyone. I have an air hammer at home so I will give that a shot and let you know how it goes.
