Thank you for your response to my previous query regarding the Carrera chain tensioner upgrade...I will call you when I'm ready to order the kit. Another question regarding my 1980 911SC Targa...living in Calgary, Alberta I am considering removing the AC unit as I rarely have the need for AC. In addition to removing the compressor, what other parts should be removed? Is there any harm to the engine in doing so? Would I expect any increase in performance?.....many thanks again! Your site truly is a great resource for Porsche enthusiasts alike!

If you remove the A/C system, then you can take out everything that is associated with it - the compressor, the lines, the front condenser, the rear condenser, the evap unit near the dash. All of this adds considerable weight, so removing it would indeed increase the performance of your 911.

As Wayne said the weight loss is power/performance. I removed mine last year, just start at the compressor and follow the lines, there's alot of stuff. You can do a search on here as it's been covered and there are thorough threads on it or if you have a bently manual that will also help.

Like Wayne says.
When you remove the compressor, be sure to remove the bracket etc. as well. I removed everything except the blower which is in the "Smuggler's box" because it can blow in fresh air when wanted. There is another blower inside the front bumper over the condenser that can be removed and the hole plugged. Altogether, it's more than 50 lbs. less weight.
