I am almost done with my sporto conversion and motor rebuild on my 70T.
My first rebuilt motor runs great, thanks for the help over the winter. Now for the problem; The tranny came out of a 70 car also. It was supposed to be rebuilt last year. After figuring out the clutch and cable issues I started the car tonight... I can not figure out how to set the shifter, I have tried everything. It seems that when I move it side to side (like you would if it was in neutral) it is in reverse. If I take it to the right and up, which is hard to do The cars stalls when I let out on the clutch. I am done for the night but am going to work on it tomorow. any pointers on setting the linkage to the shifter? ALSO: what is the shift pattern on this tranny? |

R..2-4
1..3-5 There is a spring and lockout plate to keep the shifter 'out of' the Reverse-1st plane unless the force of the spring is overcome ... normal play and movement is kept to the 2-3 or 4-5 planes of motion. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 07-11-2001).] |

If you have, or can get a Haynes manual, you may find some answers there in the transmission section, specifically on p. 96 of my '88 edition Haynes. If you take off the guide fork plate ... two nuts, directly accross from the drain plug, after draining the gear oil ... you may be able to see if there is anything amiss with the shift rod.
Remember that motions of the shift rod are mirror images of the shifter motion ... 1st gear is engaged by rotating the shift rod to maximum counterclockwise travel, and pulling out on the shift rod! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
