Really, really stupid question about 3.6 conversion...
Will any of the 3.6 trannys (G50 etc.) fit in a 911 SC?
Why not change the transmission with the engine? |

The main reason is it is very expensive to do, as there is bodywork modification that is required. I think the spring tubes need to be shortened.

Too big to fail

Torsion tubes have to be shortened (I think this can be averted with a short-bellhousing G-50) the pedal cluster has to be changed, and hydraulic lines have to be run. A lot of work!

The G50 or even G64/21 will fit if the torsion bar tube is updated to the 87-89 design or removed entirely. If removed, tube frame reinforcement of the rear suspension pickup points is required, as well as coil over suspension. In addition the late pedal cluster and hyd clutch components will be needed. For the 6 spd the additional dilema of speedometer drive arises. It all gets very expensive very quickly for relatively minor gains. Mike Bavaro at Bodymotion has done a number of these conversions as well as the 6 spd variant. Patrick Motorsports is another source of parts/info;

Hey Thom,
I noticed on your website that you paid for an engine rebuild, then listed the cost of a rebuilt 3.6 separately. What gives? Did you rebuild the 2.7 and sell it? Why a rebuild in your charges?
