I found a good use for the factory jack

I've never been a fan of the stock '74-'89 jack so I decided to do a mod.

Step 1 - cut the arm off the stock jack.

Step 2 - use the arm with a regular floor jack.

Step 3 - use the $25 saved on a jack plate for some quality german beer!

Very cool, but I love my factory jack and there is no way in hell I'm hacking it up, especially since pelican sells the jack adapter.

I've got three factory jacks, one of them (the one I "hacked") was well worn and I didn't trust it anymore. Not that I ever liked the design anyways.

I had been meaning to buy the jack adapter for some time now but I realized I could just "hack" a stock jack for the essential bit and save myself $25.

Kaefer,

How did you attach it to the floor jack? Can you post a couple of additional pictures?

I am interested in doing this but can't really see how you mounted it to the floor jack.

Thanks

The arm isn't attached to the jack. Just slide the arm into the car receiver, place the jack under the arm part that's protruding from the receiver, then start jacking up on the bottom of the arm.

The exposed part of the arm fits nicely in the jack cradle.

Looks like it isn't yet mounted, just laying there.

Have you tried this yet..?

Doesn't look like it would be stable with the car's weight out there on the end of the "lever".

Most jack "cradles" just set on the jack, not firmly held/mounted......

I used it today...works like a champ. Keep in mind my car is 2300lbs so YMMV.

You guys are overthinking this!

It works just like this:

why destroy the factory jack ??? for a couple of bucks you can get 8 to 10 inches of stock that will fit the factory hole and weld it to the floor jack pad .... for a few more dollars order a replacement jack pad for you jack then you'd have one for the side and be able to switch to the other to lift the rear if needed .........

and just asking but do you carry your floor jack in your car ???

and no the last is not a dumb question because I do carry one in my rear seat delete .... ask any one that drives with me they will verify ........

Steve

(I also carry a Bently along with way more tools and spares than one would need but I figure better safe than stuck .......)

+2 on the aluminium 944 jack ...
I removed the heavy, dangerous OEM jack,i found it a little too unsteady to use safely !

The 944 jacks sell on Ebay for twenty dollars ...

Cheers !

My jack was already like this and that is how I used it .

I have also found old torsion bars to be handy for lifting . Just grind down a flat spot . I did this when I had an e36.

Do you guys lift it up all the way at one time/side? My adapter seems to be pulling out a bit when I do that or is that because my jack was 90 degrees from the car?
