Almost had me a crash

Travelling at high velocity, I noticed that the left lane ahead of me had stopped. So I pulled into the right lane, accelerated to pass when all of a sudden, the right lane decides to stop! Hammered the brakes and locked all four corners. As the cloud of rubber dissipated, I could see that I come to a stop a mere 4-inches from the vehicle ahead of me.

Be still my heart, you get to live (and drive recklessly) for another day.

Tis the beauty of Vancouver traffic. And the best part is they were probably stopped for no reason.

Did it not occur to you that traffic was stopped for a reason and the other lanes would also be stopped?

Richmond BC Canada. Ain't no rhyme or reason for traffic to come to a complete halt. Most drivers out here are petrified by their own windshield!

Come on....you have to assume that if one lane slows way down or stops that the other lane or lanes may do the same. You know, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Pulling into the right lane and accelerating is not wise at all. If you would have wrecked, you would have brought it on yourself.

No. Thank God!!

Apparently I am wiser and a more reasonable street driver than you though.

Let's recap:

You were "travelling at high velocity". You saw your lane was stopped up ahead so you changed to the right lane and "accelerated to pass". Then, to your apparent surprise, the lane you pulled into "decides to stop!". You managed to stop 4 inches from the car in front of you.

I am sorry, but that is how you normally drive, you are a crash waiting to happen.

He sure has a point. If traffic stops the last thing you should do is accelerate! Having learned to ride motorcycles at a young age and surviving all these years sure taught me that when unsure... SLOW DOWN and assess the situation.
And while I am not your mother I have been called a mother a few times in my life!

Oh, and while I’m at it... other risky activities in which I partake:

- Speed (all the time)
- Fail to signal turns
- Pass on both the right and left
- Rarely wear my seat belt (in the city, anyway)
- Open exhaust on my Harley
- Cheat on my taxes (and wife)

and on, and on, and on…

This thread deserves to be moved to the driver's lounge forum where it can perish in the slow lane.

Should I ever encounter a situation where my brakes may not get the job done, I certainly would make use of the emergency lane for my braking distance...glad you nailed it within 4"!!!!!!!! Good enough, Trog.

BEST!

I dont agree with this at all. There could be someone taking a left turn up ahead, so everybody has to stop behind him, whereas the right lane would be clear sailing the whole way. That exact scenerio just happened to me 10 minutes ago.. Now, Im not so sure about accelerating in that lane, but at least keep moving..
