Angry grinding- second gear

I get a grinding at times that seem to only be in second gear, low rpms and right hand turns. I am really stumped. The grinding seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. It doesn't always happen with every turn I described but when it does it goes like this: I'll slow down in second gear, rpms about 1500, turn in and as soon as I push on the throttle I get a grinding sound. It is LOUD. It is louder under acceleration but goes away after I speed up or lift my foot off the throttle. Again, the sound does seem to be coming from the wheel not the tranny.

I was figuring it is either a wheel bearing, CV or a dreaded tranny/differential problem.

Tranny/differential:
doesn't sound like it is from the tranny but it only seems to be 2nd gear. I don't take turns like this in third and I am going to fast to downshift into first so I don't really know if it actually happens in other gears.

CV's:
My CVs are new and I have had CVs go out before and it usually sounds more like a clicking sound than a grinding sound.

Bearings:
I know bearings grind when under acceleration while turning if a race is worn. I have also heard I could maybe just tighten down the big ass nut on the outside of the hub.

Advice? Suggestions? Road tests?

I talked with Steve at Rennsport who told me to jack up the car and use a stethoscope to listen to the difference in the wheel bearings and the transmission. So I did and it was very obvious that it wasn't a transmission carrier bearing. It wasn't a right wheel bearing. It is the RIGHT wheel bearing. So I have that going for me. At least my labor is cheap. A tranny rebuild would have sucked.

Anyhow, thanks Steve. I appreciate the advice.

??????????

Is it the right wheel bearing?

If so, consider doing both.
