Sorry, another CV boot question..

I know there is a thread about replacing the inner without disconnecting from the wheel hub, but I can't find it.
The bolts came out fairly easily.
I now have the inner CV ready to come off (the snap ring is being a pia, but admittedly I haven't tried that hard yet).
Anyway, when the snap ring comes off, should the whole CV just slide off? perhaps with a gentle tap?
Do I need to be concerned with anything pulling out of the outer CV?
BTW it's a 77.

PS, Wish I had got a new snap ring with the boot......

If your '77 is similar to my '87 turbo, yes it comes off pretty easily. Bolts undone, snap rings gently pried off, and the CV should be able to be wrestled off those 6 studs. Just don't drop it on your forehead afterwards. I must confess that I took the entire axle off, though, so I undid the inners and outers simultaneously. I don't think that made much of a difference, as you only slide one end off at a time.

Once you have the circlip off, tap the tin boot cover off the CV joint (toward the outboard).
Push the old boot and tin cover down the axle (toward the outboard).
If the CV joint doesn’t slide off (and it probably won’t), use a puller on the inner race of the CV joint and push on the center of the axle.
DO NOT pull on the outer race of the CV joint – this forces the balls to the limit of their travel and the load is via the (not that strong) cage.

When you reinstall the CV joint on the axle, only push on the inner race.
It is usual to use a large socket or pipe-tool to seat the inner race on the axle in order to get the circlip in the groove.

Remember - NEW Schnorr washers and re-torque after 100 miles or so.
