My New Project - '77
Here it is. A 1977 Euro roller:
- No engine - 915 Trans - not in car but usable - Interior is pretty rough - Bilsteins added in last few years - Newer bushings - Welded on sway bar mount reinforcements Best of all - very very little rust. The front passenger fender and hood have some damage, but the rest of the car is very straight. I haven't figured out my plans yet...but a leaning towards a '74 IROC w/ a 3.2L using turbo flares. Suggestions? ![]() Front (someone used bondo to secure the emblem (though the mounting holes are perfectly in tact). ![]() Here's the rear. Has what looks like a factory wing and deck (since it has a wiper and motor on it), the fiberglass is cracked and the rubber wing is a little rough but not too bad).

looks like a start to a lot of expense! might try to find one with the modifications already done! of course, money may not be of much concern and the self satisfaction of doing most yourself is paramount?

I'm going to pretend that it is all about the self satisfaction. I plan on doing most of this myself as a weekend hobby. I wanted a '77 since that year means something to me, but I didn't want the 2.7L. So, having no motor didn't bother me.
First step is getting this ready to paint, which means buying a rear deck and fixing a few issues first (passenger fender). I would like to pull out all the windows and pull the fenders off as well. It is pretty ugly, but rust free and straight. So many options! |

Those parts sound great, but those "dings" are expensive. As Harry Crumb would say, "if we find the person who is selling those dings, we've found [who is making these projects so expensive]"!
Hear you on getting the motor and tranny right first. I look at this as a gift horse and hope to do a pretty complete paint job. Ding! |

I like your style! Keep us posted on the progress
....it doesn't HAVE to take $40k to build a nice 911

if i started from scratch I'd pick a solid color with a solid urethane or acrylic urethane you wouldn't need clear and it'd be less aggravation to blend or match a fender later on matching this spoiler and lid took 4 tries with acrylic urethane and then 2 shoots of Imron urethane clear. Edge of spoiler is soft rubber like plastic which works with the urethanes ![]() party hearty

I am thinking of doing all of the paint myself. Any suggestions are welcomed. I will look into solid urethane because I will be adding pieces later.
For example, I will probably keep my front bumper for now, replace the rear (since the rear valence is torn off) with an IROC replica. Then at a later date, I will replace the front bumper. First on deck is ....(pardon my pun) choosing new deck. I hear good things about GT and AIR. But, I'm still deciding on ducktail, whale tail or no wing. |

Some good paint guys around this forum. Helping you out usually leads to a phone call but it's all doable for you if you have the time, patience, coordination...... you should have a 5hp/60gallon compressor minimum if mine 1st thing is a carrera front spoiler then something on the tail because when I'm out west of those fast 2 lane country roads a big rig will literally swoosh my car up and throw it sideways without both when he's going the opposite way. I'm hoping the Carrera front and the 964/C-2 rear is good enough to keep my car planted. If not the 964 gets sold and a Carrera tail installed. I can't give you hard info if my tail functions as i want except to say that a pelicanhead noted that my rear spoiler is in the ballpark of a duck tail. I went with the C-2 rear because i want low key in city and town driving where cops don't even look twice at me if at all

it fits my 1977 with hinge mods
deck about $400 used and $50 for a good switch + wiring or another $100 for auto electric can be a simple momentary up/down switch or a slightly more involved auto up/down I went simple install with brainless trouble shooting don't take my replies for dogma as I'm into overkill and bulletproof

In my dying need to do something to this car, i did some work on the glove box. (I know that shouldn't be my focus, but I don't have my complete plan together yet and it seemed like something I could tackle).
Basically I peeled the vinyl pad off of the glove box, scraped the old glue off the metal lid and then gorilla glued it all back (holding it together for 1/2 a day with about 20 clamps). I have a before pic, but will post the after pic later: As you can see the vinyl pad was peeling away from the bottom corner (otherwise in good shape):

Here are two more pics...during, then after.
I ended up gluing it a little too low. The know did not want to go in and this vinyl sits way higher than you'd expect. For now it is fine, but I may redo it later. now on to bigger things. ![]()

I think I may have sold my old wing which will give me a little "ding" as RoninLB puts it to help offset my fender replacement.
I am still looking for a rear deck. I would like to find an IROC whale tail. Used would be best, otherwise I'll look at GT or AIR. Does anyone have any opinions about either of these two products? |

AIR takes a lot more work to fit than does GT. No fiberglass is perfect out of the box, though.

Any reason why Rennspeed's is so much less expensive?

My new fender comes in today so I spent some time removing the old fender over the weekend. The old one was suffering from a deformed headlight bucket due to some damage.
Thankfully, everything was pretty much rust free. The only rust was where the fender connects to the body right next to the hood. Looks like water got up under there somehow. I plan on painting with fenders off, so not a big deal. I also pulled off my lower valance and the black "smile" strip. The smile strip innards were rusted out beyond belief. The lower valance is in great shape. I plan on replacing all of this with an IROC replica bumper. Does anybody know if the smile strip is eliminated with a fiberglass IROC replica front bumper? |

You can eliminate or use the 964 smile if you want - I chose to eliminate as the originals did not incorporate a smile.
Check out my build - I started with a 1974 car (luckily with turbo flares already) and then chose rennspeed - I bought front and rear together and had them combine shipping. They fit pretty darn good out of the box.
