a/c question 86 carrera
hi guys this is probably another one of those a/c threads in the middle of summer again. i have a nippondenso that was using r-12 i am converting to r134 cuz of the price issue. i am in the process of flushing the entire system to get out as much of the mineral oil as possible i have already changed the expansion valve and i am about to change the dryer and vacum the system.
my main question is can i use ester oil in the system ? and how much do i need for the entire system my second and last question is where can i add it and how much in each place? thank you guys for all your help and if this has been talked about before please point in the in where i need to look thank you

If you have a Bentley Guide it state how much is needed.
You can use a areosol canof oil like the r134 comes in.

Griffiths says if your system is completely flushed, add 6 oz. You can do this by adding it to the suction port of the compressor. I would suggest removing the compressor so the port is looking up before pouring in the ester oil. I would also rotate the compressor pulley while you add the oil. Before re-attaching the suction line you would want to replace the "O" ring.
My A/C service tech's $5,000 digital machine could be programed to add the oil before adding the refrigerant.

Ah the Capillary Tube, such an interest part. Why did PAG design something that is so easy damaged.
My DVM has a temp reader with a simply shrouded wire with a sensor tip, I bet the tip is a sealed capillary end piece???

No kidding!! I snapped mine re-installing my center console. I rarely break parts, and I'm kicking myself. Btw one of my multimeters is actually an Ac/ dc clamp meter. It appears to be able to handle 40 and 400 amps, maybe? That's what it looks like on the scale, and reading the manual. The Fluke, otoh, can only handle 20 amps safely, and 30 amps for 30 seconds on, 10 mins off.

Yeah, when I installed my Sienes Gate Shift Kit was when I snapped mine, I also had to move my center console and move the damn CT. SW was helping me, I asked him if I could weld the wire. He replied wire? No, that is a CAPILLARY TUBE. WTF, then he explained it was a aluminum tube containing freon which controls the A/C temperature controller. Wow. If I only knew before hand. (LIFE LESSON #1043).
30-300 AMP, really that is crazy. Well I thought I needed it to diagnose the damn tripping Fuse #2 for the A/C but Gerry, a member here an retired EE. Pointed me the right direction. ISOLATE THE FAULT then SPEND MONEY. I will post his tutorial with his permission of course. Sorry OP for the Hi-jack. No worries, if you open up the compressor then use the above method, if not then use the 6 oz areosol can of oil and fill threw the low pressure side then top off with the r134 to spec. Just make sure you do not over fill, it will work against you. RSD, Jim

R-12 is not that hard to find. It is about $25 for a 12oz can. I was at NAPA today and it is $14 for a can of 134. To my mind, it is a no-brainer to use R12 if you can find it. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I have a new compressor, expansion valve, dryer and all the lines are out and getting new hose right now. I can tell you guys this. It is probably much easier on the brain and pocketbook to just buy the Rennaire system from our host. I am wondering if AC is worth it right now. I'll get back in a couple weeks with a report.
