Help with Wind Noise
I have a nasty wind noise coming through the passengers side door at 60mph +.
I have replaced the door seal. The door seems to be aligned OK and not need any 'obvious' adjustment. What next - how do I sove this problem? |

Coupe or Targa? Do you have all the plugs in the door? do you have the transition piece where the door meets the window? You could always try the 964 seals which are much better.

post the year of your car, and what you found out using the search; what you've tried so far, etc.

Roll up the window.....
Seriously, a Targa side seal can be easily adjusted; maybe 3 screws, and if need be, the window and frame/supports can be adjusted, too. Your 'garage' shows a Coupe.....can't help you.....others will.... Last edited by nesslar; 07-11-2011 at 04:19 PM.. |

Which seals are you referring to? Door seals? It seems that the PNs for 911 and 964 are the same. Window frame to door seals appear the same also. Am I missing something?

Nevermind, his garage shows COUPE.
Sorry, can't help but all I can think is side seal alignment issue. Check if you can see day light coming through, if so there is your culprit.

wind noise
I used blue painters tape to find my cars wind noise. Started taping the seam in the sunroof.... not the problem. Taped the seams of the passenger door.... still there.
Taped all around the front windshield...... noise gone! Replaced the windshield gasket and now all is quiet. Good luck, Tony |

I replaced my window channel seals to get rid of wind noise.

Apologies guys - I now see I've given no details.
I have a 1976 911 Coupe. The noise is on the passengers side only and appears to be coming through the gap between the top of the door sill and the dash panel. I like the idea of using tape to mask off areas to hunt to the air leaks. I will try this method tomorrow (as it might be the windshield) At the moment I have the standard rubber door seal and the the black felt down the A pillar. I have ordered a replacement windshield too as mine has delaminated and I can see the seals are not the best. Last edited by kiwi 911; 07-11-2011 at 10:54 PM.. |

post pics of the seal at the spot you suspect is leaking
you can also close the door on a dollar bill and see if it drags when you pull it - it should you can also stick dum dum in the area as a test P AG has a kit for the leading edge of the door; you might try that first |

OK, see the flash area of the seal, that protrusion, if it is not low enough the air/wind will pass and cause the wind noise.
If you remove the upper trim of your door, you will see day light right below that point when you close the door. Targa has the same issue if the side seal in not on properly.

OK Guys,
I have replaced the windscreen (due to delaminating). The installer said the existing windscreen install was poor. The new window install has reduced 50% of the wind noise. I have also applied 2 inches of sticky backed sponge to extend the A pillar velvet seal. This improved the seal between the plastic top door trim. This has taken another 40% out. There is now only a window noise over 80mph which is acceptable. The car has no real wind noise under 60mph. I'm not sure I'm going to improve on this? Thanks. |
