Porsche Crest 2011 PCA Raffle - 1973 911 T Factory Restored

I really did search and cannot believe this hasn't made it to this board already.

Read the article here about the : Revive the Passion Factory restoration project to be the 2011 PCA Raffle prize. A Factory Restored 1973 911T!

It is an interesting beater now - but the site will follow the restoration - until I win it next year - for a $50 ticket.

I added this embedded video that Manny posted earlier in the thread so you can enjoy listening while reading.

I haven't seen that raffle yet. I'd like PCA to get me a shiny new 911 Sport Classic. Should I hold my breath?

This won't show up in Panorama for a while - it was forwarded to my by our local PCA president - maybe he get's an inside scoop. Read the linked article. It is NEXT years car. They have until next June to restore this at the factory shop - will be worth alot more than a showroom Boxster or Cayman. And we get to watch the transformation via the web.

They have a restoration example linked on that site - hopefully this one will be much more detailed with some description of the process - in English.

This is another car - in the link above.

I think even I can learn a bit from the factory restoration process!

It's MFI.

We did an interview with Jochen Bader who heads up the Porsche Classic department at the factory. He was at Parade while the car was on display in the Hospitality area. Very cool guy who has the awesome job of restoring Porsches. In the video you get to see just how much restoration work they'll have to do.

That is COOL! I never bought a raffle for those new cars, but I'll buy 2 for this one! Kudos to PCA and the person who had the bright idea!

That's awesome!

I love the quick lesson on how to pronounces "fuchs" properly at 1:45 - the interviewer corrected himself pretty fast

Pity they are not starting with an S tub. Seems like the hours would be the similar and it would end up more valuable to the lucky ticket holder.

I saw this car up at Parade. What struck me most was the smell... I didn't think metal could stink.

But when you opened the rear lid you were greeted by a waft of stale barn. Not the idyllic barn of, say, Charlotte's Web, with fresh hay and rural sunshine, but stinky, unloved barn with notes of horse urine and decaying pig slop. If the objective was to get a basket case, I'd say "nailed it!"

Can't wait to buy my ticket. Great idea from PCA.

Thanks for the helpful video link Manny - here it is embedded:

A comment on the video suggests a raffle to restore the winners car. Depite the arduous DIY restoration I have done on mine - I'd let the factory do it over!

Out of curiosity, anyone know a ballpark cost to send a car for such service? He said about 1400 hours in the video, wonder how many Euros per hour Porsche charges?

Well I got a PCA email update that gives more information and progress on this project.

Here's the Link to the update : Raffle Car Project announcement/update

Here's the Link to the Revive the Passion project

I was concerned when I got the Raffle info for the 2011 Carrera GTS - which is the current car - the 1973 is the Summer 2011 raffle car. Enjoy the update.

Here is the transmission picture from the article:

First actions in Germany - evaluate the tub:

They are taking some great pictures:

Gearbox story Link

The kink in the front end, only visible to experts and a sure sign of a crash, resulted in the following measurements on the straightening bench: ten millimetres too high at the front left, double wishbone deformed by nine millimetres at the rear and twelve millimetres at the front. To achieve the highest possible accuracy when returning the body to its original shape, the mechanic didn't rely on the straightening bench alone. A rigid original frame gauge, which allows for no movement of the body, was used for the windscreen. Then, a chain was used to hydraulically place the body under tension. The rest requires the delicate craftsmanship of an experienced mechanic. Some of the mechanics in the Classic Workshop worked on the 911 production line in the 1970's and know the vehicle type inside and out.

If the stuff above doesn't get you to check this out - do you really belong on PP??

I love it.

How cool would it be to see your car go through this in Stuttgart?

Even better - how cool would it be to win this one.....may be worth re-joining PCA.
