Post slow power window fix

Had the car in the shop to fix a laundry list of minor irritations. The sluggish (especially in the cold) power windows were easily fixed with silicone spray to the window felts. This is a temporary measure until new felts are installed. Windows now slide briskly even when cold. Drive-thrus are cake.

Man, I was about to trade the car in because of little things like that (slow windows, creaky clutch pedal, faulty wiper switch, bad dome light door switch, etc). Now I can move on to minor bodywork.

Nader,

Silicon spray is a temporary fix. The regulator/window motor needs adjusting. The bolts work loose causing the window to bind in the track.

I have done my drivers side, need to due the passengers side one of these days.

Window got slower and slower over a period of about a month. Then it just stopped in the down position. Michigan is cold evern in the summer let alone the autumn. I pulled the MOTOR out and, "yikes," pulled of part of the cover and "yuk." WD 40 to the rescue. Lots of nasty stuff came pouring out. Put it back together and its rockets up and down. Now the passenger side seems slow by comparison. Maybe it'll slow down enough to irratable in a couple years and I will have to give it a similar bath.
It is surely cheaper than a new motor.

Switches can also be a problem and may burn out from such gunked up motors. While 911 window switches are cheap from the dealer, 928 switches also respond to WD40 cleaning, often aided by emory cloth.

82SC,

Pull the door panel off and check the allen bolts that attach the regulator to the door. They might be loose, mine were. There is a little bit of adjument where they attach. You have to play with it. Diverdan is correct, the track and the gear drive get all gummed up. Make sure they are clean and lubed with a good general purpose grease. WD40 will not last. If you just want to keep spraying Silicon spray on the track, that fine. I did it to mine for several months before I just took it apart and cleaned/lubed it.
