Hello from Western Australia

Hi all
I've been lurking here for years, in my capacity as a serial offender in the Porsche world, and should have said hello before now. This board is a wonderful resource, and my sincere thanks to those involved.
As a bit of background, I usually have two 911's in the shed, one newish, one old. I compete in tarmac rallies and sprint events, although thats slowed in the past few years.
The current tenants are a 2001 GT2 in silver, and a newly acquired 1984 Carrera 3.2. Needless to say the GT2 is a car that requires a degree of circumspection in inclement weather, but is otherwise my ideal newish 911. A simple (ish) rear wheel drive 911 with two turbos, a modern 930 sort of.
The 84 Carrera is a complete joy. Looks standard, but everything has a twist to make it a well honed device capable of great things. The two past owners poured an amazing amount of money and effort into this car to refine it into the car it is. An Australian delivered, non sunroof, white 84 Carrera in new condition, fitted with all the usual brake, suspension, and engine mods that you can put into one of these cars. It drives so well it is amazing.
My past 911's have included a 1992 Carrera RS, a 993 RSCS, a 1974 IROC 3.4 clone, a 1973 RS clone, a 1996 993 turbo, a 1996 Carrera 2S, a 2004 GT3, and the 84 Carrera stacks up really well against them all.
It's been a wonderful journey so far with the 911's and while you never say never, I'm as happy with the cars I currently have as I have been with any of the others, and more inclined to modify them into my ideal cars than keep changing. The latest 911's dont hit me in the sweet spot and I'm blowed if I can work out why. I suspect its because Im a hot rodder at heart and while I appreciate their technical merit, wouldnt dare touch them. Reading this board I am well aware Im no orphan in this regard.
I hope I can contribute in some small way to the board from now on.
Regards
Simonozrs

You have been lurking for a long time !
This is a brilliant technical forum, and most of us can only receive more than we can give.
Great shot of your ride -- must be time for a Perth Pelicans run (ok, when the weather gets decent)
Cheers

First,
WELCOME

Aaah, in my dreams (possible reality) I’ll come visit you.
I’ll bring my (relatively simple) 911 and drive from the East Coast (perhaps with some support and other ‘nuts’).

You have (and had) some good examples.
My RS-60, 904s and others weren’t as fast but carried ‘Porsche’ well. Good for you. Keep it up.

Best,
Grady

Enviable car collection over the years Simon. I think most of us are seriously jealous.
Not sure if you are aware, but there is also a regional NZ/Aus Pelican forum. It's not as active as main forums, but often deals with issues specific to Aus.

Thanks for the welcome , guys. Very kind of you all.
Grady, please make the trip. You will be astounded by the hospitality.
Billjam, I have seen the regional forum but it's a bit quiet isn't it?
And clutch monkey, the carrera is the car you think it is. I didn't say much, but probably should fess up that it won it's class in the club championship last year. Mind you it was very well steered. It's back in road spec now and looks fine, but still has all the good bits on board. I think I will take some weight back out and pop the cage back in and go hunting next year.
If you're interested in such things my former IROC car is on RSR Garages website still for sale. It's a cracking period correct car with all the best bits. The link is rsrgarage.com.au
I only sold it to make a business purchase and it would be nice to see it find a good home.
On another note, whilst I have had some really rare 911's, two at a time usually, at no time have I spent what I would have on one new 911, and nor have I copped the depreciation that buying new 911's would have incurred. It's actually been quite cost effective, sort of. Sometimes I've rolled out of one at a profit, ready for the next. It's been great fun, even though the world has probably slowed the process down lately, and I'm not getting any younger. If I can help anyone with their quest just ask. It's pure pleasure for me.
Regards
Simonoz
PS love the crownie, 86 911 Targa! Cheers, mate!

There are a few of us in Perth with Carrera 3.2s. I have a 1985 White 3.2.

Cheers

You have bested all other lurkers (7 years!!)

Welcome Simon. I would like to second the Perth hospitality. Played baseball for a season for the South Perth Souths in the late 80's. Couldn't ask for a nicer city and have longed to return visit with the wife..someday. Miss the swan and redback.
