coupe wannabe
I finally got around to installing a kaminari hardtop onto a spare top I picked up awhile back. The fiberglass quality it excellent, but the fitment is just ok. I also wasn't sure how I felt about painting it white, but I figured my stock top was black so why not.

Damn! I love it!
How is it on the road, and air noise/rattle issues?

Thanks for the compliments. The wind noise is alittle more than stock at highway speeds. I have a roll of door gasket that I am going to seal the inner seams with to see if I can eliminate it. It does rattle more than the stock top, I think it is mainly due to one of the plastic bushings being broken on the rear pins. I'm going to wrap one in electical tape to see if it cures it.

That does look the part. I really like it. Good choice to paint white too.

Adam,
I wonder how your car would look with some (most?) of the Targa bar painted white? Take some white ‘contact paper’ and scissors and try it. I would leave the front and back of the bar black and some detail to the side vents. Best, Grady

Adam,
That looks great. Body color seems the right choice too. I hope you get it fitted better to reduce noise. I have a second top too. I bought it to try snbush67's lexan thing: Budget Targa Top - Super lite, but it's stuck behind a bunch of other projects and priorities (as well as an uneasy feeling about drilling holes in the tabs). Kaminari may be the way to go. Cheers, Shawn

That looks great. If you want to experiment with the "white" targa or part of targa, try some white vinyl. EZ on and ez off if you don't like it. I have one of the hard tops sold by that guy in California on ebay and it is absolutely nasty with wind noise. I have since had the top guru in New Jersey rebuild my factory targa top and it is very nice. I've given some thought to painting the other top but don't know if I'll ever get around to it.

I like the bar better as it is. I hope you can get the roof to fit nice eventually. It really looks a load better than the stock targa roof. (imho)

Why not just get a factory hard top?

Mainly price and availability. From my understanding, the latch system is also alot different.
Heres the requested side shot ![]()

The tops are out there. You just have to dig for them. I know where there are a few for sale. Price is an issue, but if you were really a price conscious buyer you would not own a Porsche. The latch system on the hard top is different from the soft top. The real problem is for owners of '86 and later 911s, but still its only a small amount of work to get it to work.

definitely try white stick-on vinyl wrap on the bar
to me this solves some of the appearance issues with targas when the top is on... the graceful, flowing lines of the coupe cannot be replicated, but it helps a lot |
