Removing Rear Defrost Wires

I'm trying to do an rs carpet kit installation, but I have this handful of wires coming from the rear window. The defrost never worked in back, I would just like to remove these wires. Is it possible without taking the window out? If not how can I hide these wires? my rs carpet will show the smallest bumps...

Thanks in advance

On our '86, they combine (left and right) under the window seal, and route through a grommet on the driver's side firewall.

Any thoughts on repairing the rear window defoggers?

Best,

Gerry

The "stripes" that run across the window are to thin and don't conduct any power. I don't want to buy a new windshield at the moment. Is it possible to unplug them from where they are? or do I have to disconnect them from where they travel all the way up?

On mine, I just cut them and pulled them back out through the engine bay.
Then get rid of everything they are connected to in the bay.

Those "stripes" when the defogger is active are shorts.

About 1-2 Ohms for each of the three elements, and, they do carry a lot of current.

Removing the defogger relay will eliminate any current flow to the elements.

you may pm me.

Gerry

I didn't check the PM yet, but. If the wires are not connected in the cab and all you want to do is pull them through the firewall. Just cut them anywhere behind the connectors.
The wires themselves will pull right through. Then throw them away.

Disconnect the other end where they meet up at the Defogger relay or power or wherever. You may have to cut them to terminate. I remember I spent a long time trying to find the actual ends of these things, and do it properly but it was pretty difficult.
Sometimes these wires are bundled and split and Yed and whatever.

Ad far as getting them through the window it is easy. If you look inside your engine bay, they just go up and through the window rubber. Just yank them out.
Originally, they may of been put through before the connectors were attached, I don't know.
All I do know is they are easier to pull through without the ends on them.

They are not hooked up anyways. What is the worst that can happen. Just be careful of the end that is hooked up. Not that you are going to get shocked or anything, but try to make it as clean of a disconnect as possible.
