Any tricks to getting to the inside nuts on the 5th and 6th intake runners?

I am trying to remove my whole CIS system in one piece. Everything is going smoothly, except I can't get to the inside nuts that hold the intake runners on the 5th and 6th cylinder. Any tricks or advice to getting these nuts off? It's the only thing keeping it attached to the engine.

you just need the proper tools. 1/4 drive stuff, just the right length extension and 12mm or 13mm wobbly socket. snap-on has wobbly sockets that have 3 different depths. be sure to account for every nut and washer.

I have done it. My biggest friend was a 3/8 universal joint and different extensions for my socket wrench. I also had one of those telescoping magnets to retrieve the washers. Make sure you retrieve each nut AND washer before you pull the CIS. You do not want to be wondering whether or not a washer fell into one of your intakes!

It can be done. Swearing is paramount.

Yes!! As the Doctor (John Walker) said, I used 1/4" drive but my set up included the use of "2"Universal joints and 2 short extensions. I think I had the 13 mm socket, Uv joint then a 1 or 2 " extension & then another Uv joint then the 2nd extension AND a 1/4 drive Ratchet from Harbor Freight Tools that the head rotates. With this I can feel the tool and see the tool on the nuts. After doing this several times you can get real good at it . Also while you are at it, make sure to take a pic of how the wiring goes because several plugs LOOK THE SAME!!

Last, When you get everthing off, make sure to clock the Boot Clamps So that working from in Front of the Assembly that you can loosen and tighten BOTH SIDES OF THE boots. You will find that when re assembling this that you do not have the runners flat also before unstalling you can take 5&6 Runners and actually see the best set up for the Ratchet assembly. I actually did not use the word God even once

Lightbulb

In addition to all of the 1/4 wobbler's and extensions, once I found the right combination I used some electrical tape to hold it together.

This saved a bunch of time from having the sockets and extensions pull apart by accident.

Telescopic mirror with light and telescopic magnet are time savers as well.

The best 1/4" socket is the snap-on slimline sockets.

Snap-on is on the right, sears on left

I am glad to see this Thread because I now feel better about all that I did to get to those 2 Nuts. I spray a little Headliner glue into the socket to hold the Nut in place while I screw it on.

Remove the front most intake runner on the passenger side, it comes off by itself after removing the AC compressor out of the way. After that you have a straight shot at the two back runners with minimal cursing.

Just wanted to follow up and give a couple pictures of how I got to the nuts on the inside of the 6th runner. The nut on the 5th runner wasn't too bad, using the universal swivel attachment, a small extension, and getting the angle right for the torque needed was key. The 6th required some reaching, as seen here:
Top down view:

I think the most important part of getting those nuts off though, was this:

Got the whole CIS off and am now trying to clean this cursed contraption. What a mess.
