Can't get heat to stop coming into car

I have a 1982 911SC and I have constant heat coming from the passenger side vent. The tiny one by the window. The defroster levers are down. I check the heater boxes and made sure the vent holes were open; meaning the flap inside is closed.

I removed the hose that comes up to that vent and found that the hose that comes from the floor on the right side of the passenger foot well is blasting out heat. I have no problem with the drivers side.

Thanks for any help. Its not fun driving in 80 degree heat with the heat on

the flapper box isn't closing right. it is a little box which has a round sliding cover (like a Kraft grated parmagean cheese dispenser) that is not closing all the way. you need to get under the car and adjust the pass. side one so it so it is fully closed when the heater lever is down.

A few more weeks and you'll be glad you have the heat

Did you take the hose of to physically check the inside of the flapper box to confirm the flap is actually closed? You should check both to them to compare.

If the red plastic bushing (NLA) is broken, the inside flap may not be fully close.

I agree it's not closing properly. So it should have been a +1

I had the same exact problem on my 1982SC. The spring on the flapper box had disconnected on one end and was hanging by the other. I bent the unhooked spring end a little more with two pliers and reattached it to the flapper box arm. Now I only have heat when needed.

I disassemble one at the time so I could have a reference when it came time to reassemble (mirror image to each other);

My basic cleaner is call Facto AT-30 from http:www.swishclean.com/clean-itcenters.htm?ECINFO=//SWISHLOCATIONS (Canada/US/Europe)

Less than $5 a Liter when bought in a pale. Hopefully there is a store close to you.

Check my cleaning thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/cleaning-detailing-polishing/550748-best-cleaner-bar-none.html

Step 1: Remove the spring on the other side (not shown) and clean the center piece.

Step 2: Remove the captive clip from the shaft.

Step 3: Carefully removed the plastic bushing (red) by prying it side to side. It may already be cracked or you may crack it or split it all together. I don’t think you can buy them on their own but even if they are cracked or broken (crazy glue should work) they should still work as the fit into a recess.

Step 4: Pull (or pry off) other side as the shaft slide through the flapper. I may require a gentle hammer hit to get it loose.

Step 5: Removed the inside flapper.

Step 6: Clean/paint to you heart content.

Step 7: Reassemble by sliding the bar through the flapper (the cleanest side go toward the inside of the car as shown).

Step 8: Insert the plastic bushing.

Step 9: Secure the retaining clip on the shaft end.

Step 10: Reinstall the spring.
