Rear Seat Delete Compatibility

Will the 3.2 M/Y accomodate the rear seat delete package from the 964 and 993 M/Y?

Thanks in advance.

Gerry

I don't believe it will work without modifications, especially to the hump area between the seats and the shift rod/transmission tunnel. It would be kinda cool if it did, though.

No, but there was a rear seat delete for early cars and it has been reproduced.

Here is the link to the thread.

Is the "hump" (opening) between the doors too big, too wide, or too small?

Thanks,

Gerry

It is my understanding that there are a least 3 different contour/dimension RSD's for the 964 (RSA, C2 Coupe, and Cab). I am not sure that the 3.2 has the same dimensions as the 964 as there were many changes to the chassis. And the tunnel on the 915 cars is very low and flat not at all like the 964. You would need to compare dimensions and contours to know if it would fit.

Hey Gerry,

When you get around to doing this, I would love to see you in action and lend a hand if you need it :-)

There is a thread SOMEWHERE here which talks about fitting a 964 rear seat delete into a 911. I was under the impression that it was the sides of the unit that need to be trimmed, but I may be wrong.

I installed the model of rear seat delete pictured in the first post in my '70 based RSR. It fit but, as others have mentioned, the tunnel curvature is different (a carpeted filler panel is needed) and the seat belt mounting hold used to attach it are in a different position (required and short extension).

As the attached pics show, the RSD delete fits nicely once these two differences are addressed. Installing it in a 911 prior to the C2/C4 should be similar.

Rsd

Thanks all.

The RSD project is still under consideration.

Had I been aware of this option when we bought the car,
I would have bought it in a second as the back seats are
nothing more than "cruel and unusual punishment".

Best,

Gerry

Here's a pic of mine installed in '80 SC. As Sergio mentioned it needs a filler piece of carpet for a better blend.

I bought the seat delete from the guy in boba's link. I originally went through Eric but ended up dealing directly with the guy who makes them. I haven't installed mine yet, in fact I just started doing a little work again on my car after a long hiatus. I will say two things. The first is that they are of absolutely superb quality. I'd gladly pay his price over what I'd make myself. The second is he's a really stand up guy - at least he was with me. He sent me a targa seat delete instead of the coupe delete and emailed me that he had made a mistake. He sent me the correct one with a pretty accurate amount of money to ship his "mistake" back to him in the box he sent the targa delete in. I highly recommend him.
