Turn Signals not working, new switch & relay

I've replaced both the switch & the relay, turn signals still don't work all the time. They will work some of the time. When they aren't working, the hazard lights still work outside the car, but no indication on the tach that the lights are working. I replaced a suspicious looking fuse, still nothing. Here is a previous thread: Intermittent indicator function

Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

perhaps the year would be helpful.

looking at the 73 and an 84 diagram, it looks like power for the flasher goes through the EM switch then to the flasher. check for power at pin 49(?) of the flashe when they dont work.

not an easy diagram to follow.

About 1/2 mile from the house, on the third turn, the signals started working. They worked perfectly all day. The weather is great so I'll be "testing the switch" all weekend. I'll report back on Monday or Tuesday if all is well. Don't know why they didn't work in my driveway, I must have tried it ten or fifteen times.

Hazard lights and turn signals have different power. The turn signals need the switch (key) to be on...and the hazards do not. Do a search...lots of good troubleshooting threads on this problem.

It's a 74 Coupe per his Garage.

Check the light housing assembly with a DVM to insure you are getting proper voltage, also there are PCB type panels that hold the sockets and if broken or loose the lights will not function properly.

Sounds like you have a intermittent short. When I had the same problem it turned out to be a short in the engine compartment light. Its wired into the turn signal circuit so when you are parked on the side of the road with the park light on the engine compartment light works. Worth checking into.

They worked again this morning. I'm starting to think that the fuse was the issue all along. It looked fine, but when I removed it to check for corrosion it fell apart in my hands. It would certainly explain the intermittent part....
