What the hell is this thing???

Ok, I'm assuming that this thing might be a fader for the radio?? Please tell me what it is exactly. It's in a 85 Targa.

Now, if it is a fader and I want to bypass it, I should just connect the split wires correct? The thing is, if it is a fader, it doesn't work. Go fiqure.

Jamie

It is the fader, but I don't know how to bypass it. My rear fuse in my factory radio was blown (didn't know it was there), so I couldn't figure out what the damn dial was either. Finally got the radio working 2 months ago and figured out what it finally was. When my radio wasn't working, I thought it was for my AC. Porsche puts stuff in the craziest places...

Unplug the connector(s) under the console/carpet.

Then, buzz out the speaker wires to determine location, and connect to the amplifier/radio output.

Ever sat in the back seats with the stereo on? The rear speakers are LOUD.
I use the fader when I put my dog in back and I don't want to bother him too much.

on my '86, the factory radio only had 2 channels out, the fader split the channels from front to rear.

When I replaced the factory radio with one that had a 4 channel out, I bypassed the fader.

Thanks all. At least I don't feel the dumb now. At least I thought it was what it is. I love this forum.
