ITG Air Filters- Water a Problem?
I see these filters on a number of racy engines. Can these be used in a wet environment? I assume no....
I have K&N filters and watershield covers on my 3.0 and i'm not a big fan of the K&N filters. I wouldn't mind using a factory air cleaner housing with paper filters, but I need the middle clear to access/clear my ignition board and wires (Electromotive HPV-1) Thanks, Kevin

In the context of race cars, these are all OK, but maximum potential engine life might be shorter when using such things. There are steps we take to help ensure these work to their best ability such as applying grease to all the edges for improved sealing.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Are covers available for the ITG filters, or is it a custom fabricated solution?

AFAIK, there are no ready-made solutions; you will need to be creative.

It would be nice if someone could develop a filter housing for carbs / itbs that uses a readily available paper panel filter. there are several small cars that take a long narrow panel filter that's about the right size. peugeot 207/307 comes to mind, that filter is around 10 cm x 30 cm.

Agreed that somebody ought to have made a paper element for these carbs. Seems like there'd be a somewhat reasonable demand to justify the creation of one. I assume Weber, Zenith, Solex simply relied on use of the factory filter housing snorkel plenum?
Looks like i'll have to cook up some shielding of my own in the engine bay. Not a big fan of the K&N filters.

For a K&N-type housing, you'll want a 12" OD round filter. I found a source while roaming through Google, but they're only 2" tall. Try this: Spectre/12 in. o.d. x 2 in. oval air cleaner filter element (4808) | | AutoZone.com MotorMeister used to sell Tru-Flow foam filters to fit K&N housings, but if you keep your engine out of the equation, they might be okay to deal with. Thanks for the reminder about the True Flow filters. I had forgotten about those. Did some searching and they're near impossible to find. May have to do some direct contacting to see where I might get some. Hard to patronize MM even if they don't have my engine, given the number of people skunked by their routine.
Appreciate the feedback as always. Kevin
